Just watched the new Pride & Prejudice movie with Keira Knightly in it and really enjoyed it. As in more than I’ve enjoyed the other video versions and I believe I’ve seen them all. Don’t have a list to check but pretty sure about that. Knightly was impressive but I thought the man playing Darcy did an absolutely fabulous job of conveying the character’s natural reserve and shyness that leads people to believe he’s much more uptight than he really is. Her family was a little annoying at times, but that didn’t bother me since I knew they were supposed to be. I actually thinkRead More →

. . . because my pre-ordered copy of Warsworn, sequel to Warprize, by Elizabeth Vaughan just arrived today. This promises to be interesting. I know these are labeled as romance and I know I adored the first book but I’m still on pins and needles to see how she does with the second. Oh, and this is the first time I’ve ever pre-ordered anything from Amazon and actually had it arrive before I felt compelled to reorder it.Read More →

A long time ago in a galaxy far away . . . okay, okay, let’s not go there. Anyway, at one time I had my own site called Beverly’s Book Sanctuary then real life got in the way, big time, and I finally just gave up on that. What I didn’t give up on was one particular idea from that experience – studying a list of my top personal favorite books in some detail. This is something I’ve always wanted to take the time to do for some strange, unknown reason that even I don’t understand. Especially given my aversion to that dratted “r” wordRead More →

The Bride by Julie Garwood has long been undeniably my ultimate personal favorite romance, although there have been a few challengers for the title recently, as well as an often-used comfort read for when nothing else works for me. An interesting thing I’ve always noticed about this book is that it satisfies so many personal flavor needs for me in one book. It has – one of the most enduring and endearing of Julie Garwood’s trademark tough-guy teddy-bear heroes, Alec Kincaid a smart, tough heroine in Jamie both a hero and heroine with incredible strength of character going toe-to-toe with each other a villain thatRead More →

My printer just died and I needed a break from tweaking and learning how to run the Reader Network forum, so I decided to post something here. I picked up Sword of Darkness by Kinley MacGregor the other day while shopping, got home and couldn’t resist starting on it almost immediately. Got to the third chapter and suddenly decided I wanted to reread Born In Sin. Nothing against the new book, though. I just don’t think I was as in the mood to start learning about another fantasy universe as I thought I was but still wanted something from her. So I retreated into aRead More →

My son is all in a dither because he just checked the wotmania site and found out that Mr. Jordan, author of the best-selling Wheel of Time series, has been diagnosed with a pretty scary blood disease. If you’re interested in more details, there’s a letter on the wotmania message board from Mr. Jordan himself.Read More →

Foster, Lori: Truth or Dare anthology – Cute and quirky as well as steamy, these three stories were a very enjoyable Saturday afternoon’s read. I liked the way they were tied together by the three female co-worker’s friendship, too. Moning, Karen Marie: The Immortal Highlander – Sorry, Maili, but I actually enjoyed this one. A lot. (G) Not sure I want to get any of the others in the group because I’m not that big into time travels. The ole plot problem again. I’ll have to check them out first. Wilks, Eileen: “Only Human” from the Lover Beware anthology – My daughter brought to myRead More →

When Tara Marie was the second one to bring up western romances in about a week in her Westerns, Westerns and More Westerns… post, I got a bee in my bonnet over just how many of them I actually had. My brain always tells me none, but I know that isn’t right. So, I grabbed my trusty stenopad, which I never go anywhere without – well, almost – and went to check my keeper shelf. Here’s what I found: Three Weddings and a Kiss anthology – I’m not sure whether to actually count this one since I keep it not for the Catherine Anderson westernRead More →

I’m so buried under real life stuff at the moment, I’m probabaly not going to get around to any original blogs for a day or so, but Suisan in “Babies–wherein I alienate all mothers across time and space” really struck my funny bone while bloghopping today. So cute. So real. Go forth and get a chuckle yourself.Read More →

I had how I was going to do these “connected group” blogs all outlined in my head before I posted the first one, right down to knowing most of the author groups I was going to refer to. Then Outlook ate the content of not one but two of the posts, namely the ones on episodic series and story arcs, which I had mostly written, no less. Just up and made the entire text of the messages disappear. I’ve never had that happen before and I still have no idea why it happened after a week or more of trying to figure it out. Grumble,Read More →

Bet you all thought I’d completely forgotten about this one. Well, I hadn’t. I just haven’t had time this week to catch up on it. Since it took me a lot longer to get back to this than I’d expected, I decided to do one mass response to all the suggestions, both in emails and blog comments, and compile them into an alpha by author list. Oh, and, before I get to the list, several of you wondered how old Amy is. I guess it didn’t even occur to me to mention her age, 25, since it stopped being an issue several years ago. So,Read More →

This is the first of either three or four entries on personal favorite and not-so-favorite connected groups that I promised to post in response to a discussion going on in Maili’s blog about series fatigue. Take it all with a grain of salt as being the observations of a long time romance reader and let me know what you think. I’m willing to have my mind changed but I give you fair warning that you’re going to have to work at it. Universe spin-offs have long been the mainstay of romance for many years and with good reason. I will also admit that I originallyRead More →

My daughter, Amy, is on a werewolf kick and she’s been picking my brain for any titles I have in my collections. The problem is that I don’t have all that many and even if I did, our tastes aren’t always the same. Case in point, she absolutely loves J.D. Robb’s In Death to the point of taking the books away from me because I didn’t respect them enough. And as far as I’m concerned she’s welcome to them. Back to weres, though, Amy tends to like romances with magic and mystical elements as opposed to science fiction based ones. Any suggestions?Read More →
