Star Trek humor
I ran across this and literally laughed out loud. Yeah, it works. Well, except for the Space Hobbit… that’s just a weird comparison. 🤷‍♀️ But the Dwarf to Space Scotsman did get an extra chuckle.Read More →

The most well know and recognized comic book in the history of comics was first published on April 18, 1938 (cover dated June 1938). Inside its pages the world was introduced to Superman, his alter ego Clark Kent as well as Lois Lane. They actually go on a date. It doesn’t go well. At all. Now, when I decided to do a post about the first appearance of Superman I suddenly realized I had never actually read Action Comics #1. I mean, I basically knew what happens in the Superman story in it. Because everyone who is even remotely a Superman fan talks about it.Read More →
Consider this an addendum to Ten Nights of Love: Grace Livingston Hill. Working my way through checking and reformatting the Ten Nights of Love post series has been an interesting experience. One thing I’ve tried to double-check in each author post is that there is a link to an author site if possible. Or something that can stand in for one. Which is the case for Grace Livingston Hill because she passed away long before the Internet. There is, however, a fan-site for her books that is fantastic. This labor of love is an absolute treasure trove of information. There is stuff not only aboutRead More →
Awhile back I was looking up information on Agatha Christie, I think. Honestly not sure which author I was looking up. Anyway, I ran across this post and immediately saved it because, wow, that’s a lot of information in a small package. Basically, it’s a quick list of older biographies of well-known mystery writers. So, I thought I’d share. Happy hunting.Read More →
Yes, I have watched and loved the new Netflix Avatar: The Last Airbender live action series. Seriously, I think they did a phenomenal job for an eight episode season. Life, however, has been so chaotic recently that I haven’t had time to decide how I’m going to comment on it. Or do much posting at all. I’m getting there, though, and mostly because of Notion. Can I just say that I’m starting to love that app. Software. Whatever you call it nowadays. In the meantime, here’s this collection of Iroh and Zuko scenes from the original cartoon. You know a series is something special whenRead More →
Lately I’ve been watching YouTube reactions to the Harry Potter movies and they got me in the mood to start rereading the books. Keep in mind that I have read them all but it was around the time the last few were coming out. So it’s been years. I have, however, watched and rewatched the movies. A lot. So rereading just the first, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was an eye-opener to say the least. Naturally, I thought I’d make some notes and post about it. What I wasn’t expecting was for my notes to simply be a list of… Warning possible heavy spoilersRead More →
Two weeks ago, I had to say goodbye to my beloved doggie buddy, Bruno, who had been my almost constant companion for the last 12 years. He lived a good life and was almost exactly 16 years old. To put it bluntly, it’s taken me this long to get to the point that I could even compose my thoughts to post something at all. I will get back to posting. Eventually. For now, though, I’m remembering the good times.Read More →
Several years ago my son ran across a game “Let’s Play” on YouTube for Stardew Valley. At the time it was a brand new independently created (by one person) farming simulation game. He was mildly interested in getting it. Eventually. However, when his sister and I saw that video we wanted it immediately. Like, download it now. And we were right. It is probably one of the sweetest games out there, in several different ways. It’s a very easy game to play plus it also has a very “sweet” mood. Casual is an understatement when describing Stardew Valley. You can do as little or asRead More →
or some reasons I love Avatar: The Last Airbender When the original promo for Avatar the Last Airbender (ATLA) first came out I was intrigued. It seemed to have a fairly simple premise with a lot of possibility. So when the pilot episode for it aired on February 21, 2005, I was primed and waiting to watch it. By the time we finished that first episode of ATLA I knew something magical was happening. I just didn’t know how magical it was going to be ultimately until the series was finished. my first 9 reasons for the magic (spoiler free) #10 The bending AKA theRead More →
I’ve been impatiently waiting for the official trailer just like everyone else. Not simply to see more but because I knew it should include the characters interacting. That is a very good test of whether this one has any chance of success or not. And this trailer almost takes my breath away on that count. It’s not just that they appear to have nailed the casting and the world. It’s that they’ve nailed the humor. Let’s be honest here, there is reason that so many people go into watching the original cartoon thinking it’s just a kids show but come away devoted fans for life.Read More →
Yeah, they’re talking about doing a a live action Minecraft movie. Honestly, the idea makes my brain hurt. And I found the perfect post to explain why without me having to think about it. Because, shudder. He does bring up some very good points about why even considering this is problematical. Seriously, why even go there?Read More →
I finally got over the cold I had before Christmas and made it through the holidays. Then I thought it was time to dig into working on this website again. Only that appears to be a slow process at the moment due to having to switch note-taking apps. The problem started when Evernote decided to go bonkers and double their subscription price last fall. Which I ain’t paying. I’ll keep a few things on the free version but, seriously? No, Evernote is not worth that price. It also ticks me of that they are limiting the free version to so few notes. And one, yes,Read More →
Today is J.R.R Tolkien’s birthday, and apparently toasting “The Professor!” is how one is supposed to celebrate it. While deciding what to put in this post I was looking through some quotes from his writings and found one from The Two Towers that I truly love – as in “I want to hang this one on my wall” love: So here’s to The Professor!Read More →
originally published October 23, 2020 So, romances & connected series? Romance as a genre has always had, well, a funny relationship with connected series. The major reason is because by definition (most of the time anyway) there is a different couple in each book. So, what usually happens in a romance series is that the reader is dumped into a “community” that provides fertile ground for the author to find fresh couples to work on in each new book. Community can be defined as whatever works for the author, though. When I was actively reading non-paranormal contemporaries I loved series set in small towns. SoRead More →
