I started out the week binging on those ebooks by Michelle M. Pillow. Then somewhere around Wednesday I started coming down with whatever my son had over last weekend, i.e. sore throat, lots of congestion and just plain feeling yucky. So, yesterday I ended up sleeping most of the day with only brief moments of conciousness for bathroom and food breaks. I also barely looked at TV or books the entire day. I’d forgotten the fun of shopping online for books that could be immediately downloaded but I’ve had fun rediscovering it this weekend. Yes, I have. Plus looking up authors I’d missed lately because they were only in ebook was interesting. A little frustrating but definitely interesting. I’m still chewing on the discussion going on over on Dear Author. This time it was a comment by Robin that caught my attention. I also realize that not everyone is aiming for greater understanding across the author-reader divide, that some people are completely comfortable with the separatist position. Do the rest of you ever feel like many of your favorite authors are midlist and even rather obscure authors that no one else ever talks about? I do and one of them for me is Donna Fletcher. I believe she has books out with both Zebra and Avon. (Are they lines from the same publisher? I can’t remember. I’ve been in a truly bizarre reading mood for the last week. I’d actually revisited several old favorites before I realized what I was doing, too. In each case, I picked a pivotal scene about midway through the book, reread/skimmed to the end of the book, then started over at the beginning and continued until I reached the scene again. This isn’t a momentary aberation either because we’re talking about about around a dozen books just in the last week. If I’m on an “unofficial” vampire romance strike – and I say unofficial there because while I haven’t acutally made a concious decision to stop buying/reading them, I do tend to shy away from them a lot lately - I suddenly felt the need this weekend to record both Underworld and Underworld: Evolution on TIVO. This is just a quick note to let everyone know that I probably won’t be posting much at all for the next few days because I pulled a muscle in my lower back around lunchtime yesterday, although I’m still trying to figure out how. I bought not one but two trade paperbacks today. What is the world coming to? Actually, it’s all Mark’s fault because he was with me at the store since he’d just had a doctor’s appointment and he was the one who brought them to my attention. Then I made a mistake of trying to explain that Luna was supposed to be a crossover line between romance and science fiction/fantasy.
