I finally got over the cold I had before Christmas and made it through the holidays. Then I thought it was time to dig into working on this website again. Only that appears to be a slow process at the moment due to having to switch note-taking apps. The problem started when Evernote decided to go bonkers and double their subscription price last fall. Which I ain’t paying. I’ll keep a few things on the free version but, seriously? No, Evernote is not worth that price. It also ticks me of that they are limiting the free version to so few notes. And one, yes,Read More →

some not so deep thoughts for the New Year

It wasn’t until after the holidays that I realized just how much I had needed the time off. I’m not sure if it was just this last crazy year or that I simply needed some time to think. Could be either or both. Whatever, I definitely feel much more in the right frame of mind to write stuff for the site now.  But I also believe the need to take a break and just think is something we all need to do occasionally. Even when blogging about something you love to talk about all the time in the first place. One of the romance bloggersRead More →

short life update First and foremost, recently I’ve been having a lot of medical test related to some pain in my right side. Nothing is conclusive yet. I suspect, though, I will probably end up having gallbladder surgery within the next month or so. Therefore I’m attempting to backlog some posts. Just in case. There may only be one or two posts a week occasionally in the near future if I’m not successful. I try to do three posts each week but, you know, sometimes life happens.  All things considered it’s a really good thing I decided to rerun the Ten Nights of Love seriesRead More →

When I decided to restart blogging on this site, I knew it would be a struggle at times due to other commitments as well as some minor health issues. Still I mentally set a goal to post regularly at least 2-4 times a week and worked out a plan to make it happen. Of course I knew that I might not reach that goal at all some weeks. To be honest, I’m in fairly good health for my age but I do have some issues that I have to deal with periodically. One of those cropped up a couple of weeks ago when I startedRead More →

Taking the time to listen – to myself

Sometime last year I realized how tired I was of endlessly discussing romance novels online. Yeah, there I said it. Okay, to be fair, it wasn’t so much talking about them altogether as the repetitive way we romance fans tend to beat some topics surrounding them to death at times. That may or may not sound like a strange, rather contradictory thing to say, but it’s a true one, nonetheless. Then again, I also considered that maybe it had more to do with personal perspective than actual topic repetition. What I mean is simply this, as both a longtime reader of romances and someone whoRead More →

He’s the newest addition to our family, a smallish-sized pit bull mix we fondly call Bruno. (More on the significance of the name in a bit.) It’s possible he may be a future guest contributor to the blog if all goes well. Hey, he likes a good yarn, particularly if they’re action-oriented but he also has a soft spot for the mushy stuff, too, so we’re a good match. ;-). Here’s the thing, last year, we lost not one, but three long-time pets, two cats and a dog, all from old age. We still had two cats in the house both in their prime, so we weren’t activelyRead More →

Summers over

And it’s time to clean up the clutter that’s piled up while I’ve been taking some time off from blogging this summer. So, if you hear some pops and clanks or things kind of blink in and out over the next few days, just ignore the deranged woman behind the curtain muttering to herself about strangling, er, sweet talking tech geeks. I’m trying to add some social networking buttons to pages before I start posting again and they’re not appearing where I want them to. Or, like, at all. I may have to even change the blog template, which really makes me want to strangle someone. I likeRead More →

I was going to post about this yesterday but for some reason my Internet connection was the absolute pits. I have a satellite connection and sometimes even when the connection says it’s okay, it just isn’t. Or maybe it was the Internet in general that was off. Whatever, yesterday it was funky as all get out. Some pages would load fast and others wouldn’t even half load. I couldn’t even get to my website admin pages so I finally just gave up. Anyway, back to the point of this post, for the last few weeks, blogging has been on the back burner big time. LongRead More →

I think I’m bummed. Sort of. I’ve noticed several fellow reader bloggers talking about how long they’ve been blogging and/or their blogging anniversary. It only made me realize that I have no idea how long I’ve been doing this. Or when I actually started. This is either a very good thing or a very bad thing. 😉Read More →

My father would've loved to blog

Of course, he’d have had to learn to type first but that would’ve been a minor inconvenience. 😀 OTOH, one of my fondest memories of my father was of him busily clipping articles out of the newspaper or magazines on all kinds of topics and pasting or taping them into a steno-pad that he kept ever handy. He would always jot down when and where he got the clippings around the edges of the pages, which would’ve been great if anyone else could’ve read his writing. So, we’ll just give him an “A” for effort on that one and move along with the story. At any point,Read More →

To see how much I can babble in fifteen minutes, that is. I’ve gotten so out of practice at blogging that I figured the only way I was going to get back into the groove was to just dive in and do it. 😉 So, I’m just going to start posting whenever the mood strikes in fifteen minute spurts, no goals, just free-form thoughts until I get tired of that. You know what the really odd thing is? I never, ever liked to write in a diary when I was younger so why in the world blogging appeals to me in the first place I haveRead More →

Book summaries vs. reviews

If I were to post the summary of a book without any indication of how I felt about the book, would people consider that a review? Sounds like a simple question doesn’t it but every time I think about it, I have to wonder. And if they will, then why not just dive in and go the whole way. The thing is that it’s really started to bother me that I’ve run across some books lately, mainly all those shifter ebooks I’ve been reading over the last year, that no one else is even talking about. So, I can choose to do simply commentary on them orRead More →

Holly posted something on Book Binge that caught my interest and as I got ready to comment there, I realized that there was no way I could without getting totally carried away, so I’m posting my response. Hopefully, this is a good thing. Anyway, it’s the first part of her post that fascinated me: I’m just curious..how many of you keep up with the happenings at places like RWA, AAR, RTB, Avon Authors and etc? Personally? I don’t visit them at all. Or rarely, I suppose. If I’m directed there, sure, I’ll check it out, but I don’t make a habit of it. As a reader, I’m much moreRead More →

. . . my old blog archive to here. Now, I have to finish unpacking everything, i.e. categorizing old posts. That may take a week or so but I figure if I do a few a day, it’ll happen eventually. Plus, there’s reformating to be done on many of them but that also will get done as I have the time. Personally, I’m ready to get back to posting new entries about books on a regular basis. Not to mention catch up on some comment responses that I put off on the old blog. (See I haven’t forgotten, I’ve just been procrastinating over this move.) IRead More →

Blogging help needed

I have a couple of blog related questions and am hoping some knowledgeable individuals out there can help. There will undoubtedly be more in the near future but at present these two are the ones driving me nuts. Why can’t I post comments on blogs that use JavaScript when I can access and use other sites that use it? I noticed this problem when I tried to add a comment to Keishon’s blog. I can’t even access her feedback comments to read them much less add one. When I click on the comments link absolutely nothing happens in Internet Explorer. The same thing happens withRead More →
