This little jewel is a sweet romance. No, really, I mean it doesn’t have a single love scene in it. Or rather there is a love scene but it’s “off-screen” as it were. I didn’t remember that from the first time I read it, so it sort of caught me off guard while rereading it again.
That said this lack is in no way a problem in this contemporary “fractured fairy tale” romance by Kristine Grayson. I think it actually works in the book’s favor. At the very least, I didn’t miss the love scenes, which is always my benchmark on the issue. Don’t make me miss them and I really don’t care if there’s isn’t one “on-screen” or simply none at all.
Make me miss them, however, at your own peril.
All that said, I really enjoyed rereading this quirky little fantasy about a real psychic who suddenly finds herself dropped into a world turned upside-down complete with a magical version of Superman with the classic do-gooder complex. Only this one seems to spend his time mostly rescuing kittens. And dogs. And just about anything else with four legs.
He takes time out from that obsession to help her with a slight problem, namely baby-sitting the Fates. Yes, those Fates, who have apparently lost their jobs and powers. It’s a lot cuter than it sounds. A simply fun, enjoyable little adventure all around.
