My daughter, Amy, and I raided Wal-Mart today or at least that’s what it felt like. Mostly gardening and organizing stuff was what we went for, but I also managed to snag a couple of books. Like that’s any real surprise. The books I bagged are:

Hannah Howell’s Highland Warrior – it’s been a while since I read anything by her except in short stories so I’m not even sure why I got it, except that the blurb on the back sounded interesting.

Christie Ridgway’s The Care and Feeding of Unmarried Men – okay, I admit it, I couldn’t resist the title, plain and simple, although, I need a contemporary humor break too.

Angela Knight’s Master of Wolves – this one was more for Amy than me because she’s just discovered Knight’s werewolf books but I have to admit the blurb also sounds intriguing. Apparently the heroine, a K-9 trainer thinks the hero is her new four-legged partner or something along those lines. Definitely different.

And last but not least, Amy and I were both snagged by a Star Trek Next Generation/X-Men crossover novel called Planet X that according to my son – who is already reading the book ??? – is possibly not the first published crossover between those universes. Who knew?

Oh, and I also got a Superman bean bag pillow for my bed because it was so cute. Amy kept pointing out that it was in the juvenile linens section of the store. Like she really thought that was going to stop me once I saw it. (G)

  1. I read a couple of Howell’s several years ago and was only so-so on her, i.e. really liked one but not so much the others, so she sort of fell lower on my list of authors to look for. The one I like is Only You, I think. Seems like that’s the title. Anyway, lately, though, I’ve been seeing more and more titles and plots by her that are catching my attention so I finally decided to give in and try again.

As to Ridgway, I think I have four books by her, two category and two single, and have basically enjoyed all of them. Not enough to truly rave about them but definitely enough to keep checking when I see one by her in the stores. This one latest, however, is a surprising success so far. I still have about half of it to read so I’ll let you know.

  2. I love Hannah Howell. Highland Warrior is a great book, IMO. But I know some people have gotten tired of her lately, are you in that category? I have yet to get sick of her. I love her stories.

I’ve read a couple of Christie Ridgeway’s, but I can’t remember the titles now.
