I don’t usually recommend a movie, or much of anything, after only watching it once. But let me just say simply that this one deserves the recommendation. It’s that good. Ron Howard (director) has outdone himself with this one.
I mean the story itself of the 13 boys getting trapped in the cave in Thailand in 2018 made world news. That they were even able to rescue them was miraculous. But you don’t realize just how miraculous until you know “how” they did it.
Wow.
Watching Thirteen Lives on Prime the other day, I was equal parts thinking that it had to be wrong – they couldn’t have done it that way. And equal parts realizing that they couldn’t do it any other way. Astonishing. Downright crazy. Yet courageous. Brave. Daring. Throw all the adjectives you want at this one and they would probably fit.
One warning, though, if you have any kind of claustrophobia then this movie, or story for that matter, probably isn’t for you. Seriously. The only way I got through parts of it was by skimming ahead until there was room to breath. Yeah, cave divers are a special breed.
Oh, and when I started digging around for information to see if the move was true to what actually happened, I realized there was a documentary called The Rescue about it on Disney+. So I watched that too. Very good. And it fills in a lot of the blanks left by the movie.
Simply incredible.
