I had just finished devouring the first season of the new Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries when I ran across a review of it. So, let’s start with a quote from that first:
Overall, Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries was a happy surprise since I loved it just as much as Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. I only wish there were more than four episodes in this first season. While the first episode is a bit of a slow start, it met then exceeded my expectations. Fans of Phryne Fisher should be pleased to see her legacy continue with the charming Peregrine Fisher.
‘MS. FISHER’S MODERN MURDER MYSTERIES’ REVIEW – A WORTHY SUCCESSOR
Yes, ditto. I really like this new series. In fact, I may go so far as to say that I like it more than the original, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. While Phryne in the original was an interesting character, she also came across as very hard-edged sometimes. And I never bought into her and Jack’s relationship.
Peregrine is totally fresh and new, but not naive. She definitely gives the new series an energy that may have been missing in the original. Especially in her relationship with her detective counterpart, James. That relationship felt like it had lots of possibilities from the moment they met.
Probably won’t go anywhere but that’s a detective show for ya. If they’re not already married, they never quite get together. Do I sound jaded? If so, it’s the romance reader in me that also loves mysteries that sounds jaded. Seriously.
