Well, I guess I better get back to reading. Although… I’m well ahead of where this new season is supposed to get to, so there’s that. Decisions, decisions. Definitely know what I’ll be watching in September, though. (And maybe October.) My son will see to that. Heh.Read More →

On the fantasy side, I’ve been spending a lot of time lately reading The Wheel of Time (WoT) series. I’ve honestly decided I’d like to finish the entire series by the end of this year. Well, it’ a goal anyway. Which means I’m trying to read a couple of chapters a day. At least! Since I’m already almost finished with the 8th book (The Path of Daggers), it’s . . . doable. Maybe. The problem is that I think I’m in the middle of what the fans not so fondly call The Slog – the point in the series where Robert Jordan got really, reallyRead More →

I’m currently working on a couple of long posts. One book related and one TV series related. However, neither of them is anywhere near being ready so I thought I’d do a quick update post for one of my ongoing reading projects. With a little extra at the end. I’ve recently started listening to Wheel of Time again. Well, off and on. Okay, I’m working on psyching myself up to it, anyway. Hey, I’m on the sixth book, Lord of Chaos, and right off the bat I realized the prologue is almost 2 hours long. (The chapters probably average around 45 minutes for comparison.) My eyesRead More →

I started out the week with several posts in the works. Then life took over. As a result, I haven’t had much time to work on anything much at all. So I decided to simply do an update post on what’s in the works. More or less. Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla For Mother’s Day my kids got me a two volume set of Godzilla movies from the 1990s/2000s. Since then my son and I have been working our way through them in chronological order, a couple at a time. It’s both fun and mind boggling. You wouldn’t think there would be a lot of variety in themRead More →

I finished listening to Wheel of Time Book 5: The Fires of Heaven over the weekend. I think I’m going to take a break and maybe listen to something shorter. Like any other book out there. I say that because I was going to immediately download the next book in the WOT series but didn’t. Yet. Because the next one, Lord of Chaos, is so big Audible feels the need to divide it into five parts. My brain needs a break. Which it kind of got anyway because I was in the mood to reread Dark Light by Jayne Castle (AKA Krentz), one of herRead More →

I haven’t done any Wheel of Time related posts lately, mainly because I haven’t been reading/listening to the books. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to them over the holidays. But since they’ve made several casting announcements recently I thought I’d mention the one yet to be announced casting choice that seems to concern fans the most. That would be for Bela, the horse that leaves Two Rivers with our protagonists at the beginning of the series and somehow manages to pop up periodically over the rest of the books. I’m not kidding, this is a very serious topic with die-hard fans. It’s bizarreRead More →

Haunted Bookshop series (and taking a break from WOT)

In short, I finished Wheel of Time (WOT) #3: The Dragon Reborn and took a break to listen to the third book in the Haunted Bookshop cozy mystery series by Cleo Coyle (or Alice Kimberly because some editions have that name ??).   About Haunted Bookshop series I really, really enjoyed The Ghost and the Dead Man’s Library. I think she’s getting better. That’s not to say the first two weren’t good but the first, The Ghost and Mrs. McClure, was more involved with setting the scene and getting to know the characters. Those being that Penelope Thornton-McClure goes into the bookstore business with herRead More →

Several weeks ago I talked about starting to listen to Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time books on Audible because of a promise to my son. He is a devoted fan that has author signed hardbacks, collectibles & tee-shirts. He’s also so excited that they’re finally making a Wheel of Time TV series and wants me to watch it with him when it airs. Big puppy dog eyes are involved here. So I’ve committed to reading, OK, listening to the entire series and I’m enjoying it way more than I thought I would. I’ve already finished book one, The Eye of the World, reached the middleRead More →

Old Time Radio

audio vs print books

I still read a lot of print but in the last few years, suspiciously after getting a smart phone, I’ve started listening to podcasts, dramatizations and audio books. The odd thing to me is that what I like to listen to is in many ways completely different than what I like to read.  For instance, I like to “read” romances. If I’m reading a romance e-book on my phone I will sometimes turn on the audio but still catch myself reading ahead of the audio, which is just downright annoying.  And I just can’t listen to love scenes. Just no. Love scenes aside, I tendRead More →

A funny thing happens when one takes a break from reading for a period of time. A favorite author’s backlist can multiply like rabbits, especially when we’re talking about the romance genre. At least nowadays. Case in point, a couple of weeks ago, I go out to eat with my children and on the way home we stop do some shopping. Oddly enough, or not, we all three end up in the book aisle at about the same time and start jokingly picking out books for each other. Then things took a turn into the very funny when I pick up a new book byRead More →

The first thing I found out Monday was that Robert Jordan, author of The Wheel of Time fantasy/science fiction series, had died. Bummer. Especially for my son, who is a such big fan. He’s actually met the man several times at signings so he’s been rather depressed about it all week. (I’d link to it but I’d misplaced the report I had saved, so just do a search for around last Sunday on that name and you should get something.) On the flip side, I got the message that Linnea Sinclair is doing an interview with Admiral Branden Kel-Paten and is asking for readers to submit questions.Read More →
