I haven’t had a lot of time to work on posts this week because… holiday season. But I ran across an excellent post regarding one of my favorite SG1 episodes and thought I’d share. Okay, let’s face it, Window of Opportunity is probably everyone’s favorite. Or at least every fan’s favorite. It’s just perfection. And reading (and watching) the background behind how this one came about is absolutely fascinating. First the post for you to go read: If you’re interested, make sure to watch the embedded video for even more details. Caution there are some spoilers ahead for SG1: Window of OpportunityYou have been warnedRead More →

I’m not all that crazy about sit-coms. Never have been. I mean, when we still had traditional TV access, I would occasionally watch one enough to know the characters. But usually those were the fad-of-the-moment that everyone else was watching too. At least a little. You know the ones you can’t get away from because everyone is talking about them. Think Friends or Happy Days or, oh, yeah, MASH is another good one. But it’s rare that I actually became enough a fan of the average run of the mill sit-com to watch start to finish, every single episode, rain or shine, good or bad. Read More →

Finally had time to watch the new Scooby Doo movie called SCOOB! last weekend. I enjoyed it and laughed a lot. It was a nice update of the characters and setting while honoring the past. At times, it almost felt like a Hanna Barbara smorgasbord to be honest. It was actually kind of amazing how many HB characters they managed to fit into the movie, either as full roles, cameos or just Easter egg “blink & you miss them” mentions. And yet that aspect never felt forced to me. It was just fun and a little nostalgic. But not in an intrusive way at all. Okay,Read More →

As I mentioned in a recent post, I recently finished a pretty much yearly rewatch of Stargate SG1. Even the follow-up movie Arc of Truth. The only thing I haven’t rewatched yet is the Continuum movie. Not totally sure I’m going to, either, because, not my favorite.  Anyway, all this Stargate binging got me to thinking that I needed to work on a favorites page for one of my all-time favorite TV series. So that’s been my focus for this week and Stargate (TV series) is now a page. While doing some research for that, though, I ran across a few videos I wanted toRead More →

Stargate SG1

why I love Stargate a lot more than Star Trek nowadays

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile, off and on. Most recently while re-watching some Stargate SG1 episodes. For the umpteenth time.  And it’s not that I don’t still love Star Trek! Because I’m a longtime fan of almost all variations of Star Trek. My favorite is probably Star Trek: The Next Generation. For a lot of reasons. Just saying that up front before the next paragraph.  However while I “grew up” with Star Trek and love it, I think I may have outgrown it. Why? The short answer? The Star Trek universe can get a bit… well, I don’t want to say repetitive but that’sRead More →

I got in the mood to re-watch some of the original CSI : Crime Scene Investigation (hereafter called CSI “Vegas”) recently. The urge to rewatch this one doesn’t happen often. I mean, I watched the entire series when it was airing. All the way to the end. For the most part I really enjoyed it even with all the character changes. Now, however, I only re-watch selected episodes. And not necessarily the ones anyone else might pick to re-watch either. Outside of episodes that have intriguing detective work or science, I tend towards favoring two distinct types. First are the ones I call Chaos episodes,Read More →

The other night I was browsing Hulu. I found out they have 8 seasons of one of the Ancient Aliens series. I know what I’m going to be watching a lot now though. Yes, it’s a guilty pleasure. One that I’m still trying to figure out to be honest.  Do I believe everything “ancient alien” documentaries talk about? No, probably not even 10%. Eh, 5%? They are fun to watch though. Also occasionally very repetitive. Which is kind of where the guilty part comes in.  I keep asking myself why I’m wasting my time. Then do it again the next time I run across one.Read More →

Over the weekend I started re-watching my DVDs of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. It’s been several years since I actually watched them and I was curious whether they would hold up. Wow. Just watching Terri Hatcher and Dean Cain interact as Lois & Clark is still a joy to behold. Those two have unbelievable chemistry. Yes, I said have because I saw a Comic-con interview of them from 2018 or 2019 and it’s still there. 25 years later. Oh, there are other TV series that I loved before and after but Lois & Clark is special to me for a lotRead More →

I haven’t done a Doctor Who related post lately so when I ran across an article that made me want to argue with it, I knew the time had come. There have been many different Doctors on Doctor Who, and with them many companions. Here are ten times the companions were stronger than the Doctor. Ask any Whovian who the best companion is and they will have a well thought out list of reasons why their favorite is the right choice. However, ask about the strongest and the debate changes a bit. Apparently, it’s going to have a cinema release in Australia but will also be on Acorn TV eventually. The dates seem weird but this is also from Wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt: Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears will have its World Premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival January 4, 2020. The film will then be released in Australia by Roadshow Films February 27, 2020 and will screen in the US in select theaters and on streaming service Acorn TV in March 2020. first posted October 30, 2018 I thought it was time I made a list, kinda, of all the Scooby-Doo videos I have in my collection. Quick WOT update first. I finished Book 3 The Shadow Rising and started on Book 4 The Fires of Heaven after a weekend break. I’m working on a WOT related post where I interview my son about being a die-hard fan of the series but that’s on hold until I can pin him down to talk about it. Now on to one of my personal fan obsessions. (Although not as obsessed as he is about WOT.) I love this print and want it for Christmas! When I first ran across it I didn’t see the Dean Cain Superman so I passed over it. Then IRead More →

I ran across “Doctor Who: The Time War Was Genius (& Moffat Made It Even Better)” on Screen Rants and was left rather bemused. Maybe because Screen Rants is rather hit and miss with me. But I agree with this one even though I hadn’t thought about it that way before. Put it this way, I’m a big fan of the new Doctor Who but have tried to watch the classic version and just… can’t. Maybe if I skipped to later seasons it would work for me but starting at the very beginning does not. Nope. No way.  I’d never really thought about how the TimeRead More →

I’ve been wanting to rewatch this one for a while and when I found out Fringe was on Prime through IMDB (who knew they had their own channel?) I started an immediate binge. Seriously I watched or read very little of anything else while binging on it except for the occasional palate cleanser cozy mystery episode here and there.  I’m kind of blown away, too. I mean I remember liking it a lot when I first watched it but it seems even better than I remember. It’s only 5 seasons, or 4 1/2 since the last is only a half season, but it packs a lotRead More →

Editing note: As I get older and technology gets better, I’ve found myself making more “research notes” about what I read and watch and play and, well, you get the idea. So much so that I’ve come up with an outline of the things I want to remember for myself and I’m applying it more and more. This is my first attempt at actually using that outline to create a type of post which I’m calling a Summary. If it works I may do more. Background I think I became aware of the legend of the Monkey King when I first saw The Forbidden KingdomRead More →
