I’ve been wanting to rewatch this one for a while and when I found out Fringe was on Prime through IMDB (who knew they had their own channel?) I started an immediate binge. Seriously I watched or read very little of anything else while binging on it except for the occasional palate cleanser cozy mystery episode here and there.  I’m kind of blown away, too. I mean I remember liking it a lot when I first watched it but it seems even better than I remember. It’s only 5 seasons, or 4 1/2 since the last is only a half season, but it packs a lotRead More →

Editing note: As I get older and technology gets better, I’ve found myself making more “research notes” about what I read and watch and play and, well, you get the idea. So much so that I’ve come up with an outline of the things I want to remember for myself and I’m applying it more and more. This is my first attempt at actually using that outline to create a type of post which I’m calling a Summary. If it works I may do more. Background I think I became aware of the legend of the Monkey King when I first saw The Forbidden KingdomRead More →

British superheroes… um, what?

Cause I’m sure there are some British superheroes in the comics but I’m drawing a blank. Name any of today’s superheroes and you can bet they’ll be American. Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Spiderman: the list goes on and on. It’s easy to think we don’t have a single one to call our own this side of the Atlantic. But maybe we do. Homegrown superheroes: which UK characters and legends should team up? Oh, OK… that makes more sense. This was actually a fascinating article to me for a number of reasons. Let’s see, we have Robin Hood, King Arthur, Beowulf, Prospero, Cuchulain & Sherlock Holmes mentioned.Read More →

Really hilarious.  Okay, full disclosure. I watched the first season or so of the Merlin TV series when it first aired. And then it just got too ridiculous for me. Or ridiculous and overly dramatic. Oh, I don’t know how to put it. It was kind of like watching some bizarre fractured fairy tale and while most of the time that works for me, hence the attempt at liking it, this one just didn’t work. I did, however, watch the series finale after it went off the air and I may eventually watch it all the way through. So I’m not giving up. Having saidRead More →

Okay, just for the record this post will probably contain some slight spoilers but, seriously, anyone who doesn’t have some idea of the major beats of this story has been living in a cave for the last three decades.  Anyway, my children got me these two videos for Mother’s Day. Boy, do they know their mother.  My son and I ended up watching it together on Mother’s Day and the only thing that really threw us was starting out with basically the New 52 Superman in The Death of Superman… who was hooked on and apparently dating Lois Lane. Not that we had any quibbleRead More →

I realized I hadn’t yet done a game list and there was only one to start off with. When I want to relax but not read or watch something, computer or video games are what I turn to. And this particular series is one of my all-time favorites. I say one of because I am also quite fond of Lego games on the Wii but I will get to those in another list. But I’ll just say up front that there’s just something very satisfying about smashing stuff that we won’t go into here. 😉 There are two things I love about this series. One,Read More →

(Years ago when I was very active in the Lois & Clark fandom, I put a list together of all my favorite quotes from that show. And then it grew. There are probably a few more that I could add to it because I know I don’t have every episode represented. I may even one day create a video with all these clips. But, just for fun, I thought I’d throw it out there.) “Lois is . . . well, she’s complicated. Domineering. Uncompromising. Pigheaded.” … “Brilliant.” (THE PILOT) “What he can’t do it doesn’t matter. It’s the idea of Superman. Someone to believe in.Read More →

I have The Phantom starring Billy Zane on video and rewatch it fairly regularly. I wouldn’t say I love it but it’s one of those movies I can watch to pass the time when there isn’t anything else on. What can I say? I’m addicted to superheroes. But I definitely got more than a chuckle out this: Don’t get me wrong, I have a major soft spot for this 1996 Billy Zane vehicle, based on the Lee Falk comic strip, but that says little about its quality. The reason this guy makes the list has less to do with his ham-fisted line delivery or dorkyRead More →

There are few TV series that I feel truly deserve the honor of being collected in their entirety. Stargate SG1 is one of them. Truth to tell, I’ve only recorded two other start to finish in my entire life – Star Trek: The Next Generation and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I still haven’t gotten the DVD version of ST:TNG – eleven years worth is damn expensive, you know. I have upgraded to the DVDs of L&C. We didn’t record SG1 ourselves either. Not sure why, but this was simply a series that one knew was going to be merchandized so weRead More →

I saw a book in the grocery story yesterday and passed on it then. Now, I’m wondering if I’m going to have to rethink that after doing some online research. It was by an author I’ve read and enjoyed in the past, true – Kathleen Nance. Really liked her Olympian and Djinn books. Phoenix Unrisen is labeled romantic suspense, though, and so I paused before picking it up. I’m not real hot on that nowadays. Then when I looked Phoenix Unrisen up on Amazon a little while ago, bells started going off because the names mentioned in the descriptions sounded familiar. That didn’t click yesterday. So, IRead More →

Vampire, werewolves & superheroes, oh my!

Dithering on the Susan Sizemore book (see yesterday’s blog entry) made me realize that I think I may be vampired-out, which is weird, because I don’t even read vampire romances, not counting Feehan’s Carpathians and Sands’ pseudo-vamps, that is. And I haven’t read that many werewolf books either. Uh, actually come to think of it, the only one I can even remember at the moment was Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I think that’s the right one. (Vane’s book?) And I started to say alien for the last but decided I really hadn’t read enough of those to count anyway so I changed it toRead More →
