Ever wondered which famous books have the most movie adaptations?

This article contains a fascinating list of books that have been made into movies multiple times. And the top one is probably the most interesting… and the least surprising. At the top of the list, Dracula by Bram Stroker has had 91 movies made from it according to this and that’s not at all surprising. Should probably add “and counting” to that, too. I wondered where The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (first Oz book) would fall but then remembered that it hasn’t actually been made into that many movies. There are a lot of Oz stories out there in video but not that many thatRead More →

Yeah, they’re talking about doing a a live action Minecraft movie. Honestly, the idea makes my brain hurt. And I found the perfect post to explain why without me having to think about it. Because, shudder. He does bring up some very good points about why even considering this is problematical. Seriously, why even go there?Read More →

Christmas tree

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

First posted Dec 18 2018, reposted with minor edits and links updated as needed These are some of my personal/family favorite Christmas movies that we usually watch in the days leading up to Christmas. The first one isn’t even a Christmas movie (but if you are of a certain age you may know why it’s on this list) and two of them are favorite animated classics.  When I was very little, not saying when, this movie aired on TV every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Therefore I will always and forever believe it should be rewatched a week or two before Christmas.  For some reasonRead More →

(originally posted May 22, 2021) Lately I’ve been in a weird mood movie-wise. I think it’s partly that Prime has been pushing random superhero and/or adventure movies with maybe a dash of science fiction tossed in for good measure to the front of my recommendations. Gee, I wonder why they would ever think I’d like those? Thing is that they’re all stand-alone and not truly deserving of their own post. So I thought I’d tell you about the ones I’ve seen recently with a small snippet of the listed IMBd descriptions. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984) Description: “Adventurer, brain surgeon,Read More →

(originally posted April 17, 2021) possible mild spoilers ahead just saying I really liked this one. A lot more than Godzilla (2014) or Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). To be honest, I remember watching Kong: Skull Island (2017), which is also in this series, but that’s about it. Not sure what that says, but apparently it didn’t make a big impression on me. Of course, I’ve re-watched the other two recently so that may be part of it. Not all though. first there are the battles between the two titans The monster fights in Godzilla vs Kong (2021) are absolutely phenomenal. The way theRead More →

My son and I watched Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves over the Memorial Day weekend and really enjoyed it. I honestly didn’t expect it to be very good. But it was fantastic! And, to be honest, I’m not even sure what makes it fantastic. Okay, let me back up a bit before I try to figure that out. Even as much of a fantasy fan as I am – generally speaking – I’ve never been that big on the D&D stuff. Definitely never played the table games. And only have a passing acquaintance with the movies that have been made in the past. OfRead More →

Star Wars 1977

Yes, Star Wars was originally released on May 25, 1977. Notice I did not say Star Wars: A New Hope because that was not what it was called then. Anyway, my children and I were talking recently about what made Star Wars such a cultural phenomenon. Looking back it’s really difficult to explain exactly what it was like when the first movie came out. That has less to do with the world at time than it does with the movie itself, I think. No one knew what to expect and what we got certainly wasn’t anything like what we might’ve imagined. So where to start?Read More →

We got a new high speed internet connection a couple of weeks ago so my son & I immediately decided to have a movie DAY since we weren’t busy elsewhere. Of course, the next question was what to watch? We finally settled on John Wick. Ended up watching the first three movies, one right after another. So, I’ll say it again. WOW! The weird thing is that essentially they are very violent, blood and all, movies which normally I don’t like that much. And yet it was more like watching a ballet at times. With guns and fists. My son said that they are probablyRead More →

I don’t even remember how I ran across this article. But wow, this list of rules for rebooting classic TV and movie properties should be taken to heart by Hollywood. Especially the last one. Just saying. Seriously. Because that seems to be the way things go lately when something literally flops and it ain’t pretty. Or nice. Yeah, I’m looking at you… VELMA.Read More →

The Wizard of Oz

A horror “movie” based on The Wizard of Oz?

Okay, I’m not even a horror fan but I’m still intrigued. I mean I’ve read the Oz books and I can see where one could find horror in the subject matter. Especially in the later books, there is a lot more downright horror elements than one would expect in fantasy supposedly created for children. So, yeah, I can see it. Now we’re not talking about a feature film here but a short crowd-sourced project. Honestly, I think we’re going to see a lot more crowd-sourcing of creative content in the future. People are just downright fed up with some of the insane decisions major studiosRead More →

The other day I took an entire late afternoon and evening to myself to indulge in some movies just out on streaming. It was very enjoyable because they were completely different. Enola Holmes 2 To be honest, I thought this sequel on Netflix was a lot better than the first Enola Holmes movie. Not sure if this one was based on one of the books but I got the feeling they took a lot of liberties because it felt completely different from the first. For one thing, Sherlock was in this one a lot more and it balanced out the story they were telling. WhateverRead More →

Thirteen Lives (2022)

I don’t usually recommend a movie, or much of anything, after only watching it once. But let me just say simply that this one deserves the recommendation. It’s that good. Ron Howard (director) has outdone himself with this one. I mean the story itself of the 13 boys getting trapped in the cave in Thailand in 2018 made world news. That they were even able to rescue them was miraculous. But you don’t realize just how miraculous until you know “how” they did it. Wow. Watching Thirteen Lives on Prime the other day, I was equal parts thinking that it had to be wrong –Read More →

It was nice taking some time off. Didn’t get a lot of reading done but did watch a few new movies. Plus I discovered a couple of new-to-me detective series. We were able to watch both Sonic the Hedgehog 2 & Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers together as a double feature family movie night. Let me put it this way, they are both very good. But one of them is an absolutely fantastic non-stop action adventure. The other is more “what da heck did I just watch?” meta deliciousness. And yet still very good in its own weird way. Ya only get one guess asRead More →

The next two weeks are vacation time for the family. So, naturally we’ve been making a list of the things we want to do. Which includes new to us things to watch. The list is interesting because it’s all over the place so I thought I would share it. 2022 movies we haven’t seen Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Thor: Love and Thunder Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Top Gun: Maverick (and probably the original Top Gun because it’s been so long I need a refresher) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 The Batman TV series to finally catchRead More →

I have been fighting my allergies the last few days. I’m either stopped up and can’t breath or constantly have a tissue at my nose. Yech. As a result I haven’t done a lot of anything this week, mainly because my eyes feel blurry half the time. So, while being a couch potato the other day, I was digging around on HBOMax and realized they had The Da Vinci Code. Been so long since I’d seen it, I couldn’t remember exactly what happened in it. So I watched it. Then watched the next one, Angels and Demons. It made for a nice enjoyable evening ofRead More →
