Doctor Who

What if Dr Who wasn’t a Time Lord but something else…

(originally posted February 24, 2020) I finally read “Dinosaurs and Nukes Don’t Mix: A Ulysses King Adventure” by Mark Beaulieu and really enjoyed it. But I will admit that it wasn’t what I was expecting. Okay, let me rephrase that. I’m not sure what I was expecting. Basically a Doctor Who type story wasn’t it. Even after reading the description.  It was very much in the style of an episode of Doctor Who only with dimension jumping rather than time travel. Oh, and a Godzilla wanna-be is tossed in just for kicks. Very enjoyable though. Reminded me more of a Doctor Who fan fiction whereRead More →

I haven’t done a Doctor Who related post lately so when I ran across an article that made me want to argue with it, I knew the time had come. There have been many different Doctors on Doctor Who, and with them many companions. Here are ten times the companions were stronger than the Doctor. Ask any Whovian who the best companion is and they will have a well thought out list of reasons why their favorite is the right choice. However, ask about the strongest and the debate changes a bit. I ran across “Doctor Who: The Time War Was Genius (& Moffat Made It Even Better)” on Screen Rants and was left rather bemused. Maybe because Screen Rants is rather hit and miss with me. But I agree with this one even though I hadn’t thought about it that way before. Put it this way, I’m a big fan of the new Doctor Who but have tried to watch the classic version and just… can’t. Maybe if I skipped to later seasons it would work for me but starting at the very beginning does not. Nope. No way.  I’d never really thought about how the TimeRead More →

British superheroes… um, what?

Cause I’m sure there are some British superheroes in the comics but I’m drawing a blank. Name any of today’s superheroes and you can bet they’ll be American. Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Spiderman: the list goes on and on. It’s easy to think we don’t have a single one to call our own this side of the Atlantic. But maybe we do. Homegrown superheroes: which UK characters and legends should team up? Oh, OK… that makes more sense. This was actually a fascinating article to me for a number of reasons. Let’s see, we have Robin Hood, King Arthur, Beowulf, Prospero, Cuchulain & Sherlock Holmes mentioned.Read More →

I think I’m back in fighting form, more or less. Haven’t been back to the doctor yet for more blood tests but I’m definitely feeling better and especially not as fatigued. That was starting to get old.  On the plus side, this weekend I was able to catch up on Doctor Who in anticipation of the new Doctor debuting on Oct 7. (Well, in Britian anyway.) Honestly, I have to admit that I have conflicted feelings about the next Doctor being a woman. On the one hand, I really like the idea of them finally going in that direction. On the other, though, I’m honestlyRead More →

A new Doctor Who begins tonight on BBC America played by Matt Smith. Well, technically, I think it’s already started in Britain several weeks ago but beggars can’t be choosers. 😉 Yeah, I’m now definitely hooked on this long running science fiction series. It all started around Christmas and New Years with the marathons they did as they were wrapping up the run of the last incarnation of the character played by David Tennant. I think I over indulged but I finally started to see the fascination so many have for this character and series. I mean, what we have here, basically is a character whoRead More →

Sci-fi fans can be scary sometimes – even the, ahem, girls ;-)

I know this because I am one. My son knows this because he is a male who has dealt with two female fans, me and his sister. In fact, we got into a discussion about obsessive sci-fi fandoms just the other day after he ran across a Doctor Who forum that I think actually scared him a little at the degree of, um, obsessiveness. Doctor Who has been around for a lot of years and undergone a lot of, er, regenerations. Deadly combination for obssessive fans. Anyone care to speculate on who is worse Star Trek or Doctor Who fans? Not me. 😉 All of which musingRead More →
