Apparently, it’s going to have a cinema release in Australia but will also be on Acorn TV eventually. The dates seem weird but this is also from Wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt: Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears will have its World Premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival January 4, 2020. The film will then be released in Australia by Roadshow Films February 27, 2020 and will screen in the US in select theaters and on streaming service Acorn TV in March 2020. I’ve decided to focus this month on working on some “behind the scenes” projects and general maintenance so what posts I do manage to write will probably be fairly short. Mainly, there’s one project I’ve been thinking about for a while which is creating pages for My Favorite Things so the last week or so I’ve been playing around with how I want to format those. Another project I’m working on is expanding the About page.  In the meantime, I ran across an article about combining genres and thought I’d share because I thought the opening paragraph was very intriguing:  From a writer’s perspective, theRead More →

I’ve been wanting to rewatch this one for a while and when I found out Fringe was on Prime through IMDB (who knew they had their own channel?) I started an immediate binge. Seriously I watched or read very little of anything else while binging on it except for the occasional palate cleanser cozy mystery episode here and there.  I’m kind of blown away, too. I mean I remember liking it a lot when I first watched it but it seems even better than I remember. It’s only 5 seasons, or 4 1/2 since the last is only a half season, but it packs a lotRead More →

I had just finished devouring the first season of the new Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries when I ran across a review of it. So, let’s start with a quote from that first: Overall, Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries was a happy surprise since I loved it just as much as Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. I only wish there were more than four episodes in this first season. While the first episode is a bit of a slow start, it met then exceeded my expectations. Fans of Phryne Fisher should be pleased to see her legacy continue with the charming Peregrine Fisher. ‘MS. FISHER’S MODERN MURDER MYSTERIES’ REVIEWRead More →

I’m not that much on horror. Like at all. Honestly, I do not seek horror out but it occasionally finds me, usually when I stumble into a movie has some horror elements. I might even make it to the end of the movie. But I ain’t gonna read horror. Just, no. Recently, though, I decided to start rewatching X-Files. The original. From the beginning. In small bits of a couple of episodes at a time. Don’t know how far I will make it but we’ll see. Thing is, I had forgotten just how much horror there was in that series. Okay, did anyone besides me also not know that The Green Hornet was the grand-something of The Lone Ranger?

Because honestly, I did not know this. Or if I ever did at any point it was buried so far back into my subconscious that it was lost in a memory black hole. But he was related. In the original radio broadcast he was the grandson/grand-nephew of The Lone Ranger because that broadcast was a spin-off of The Lone Ranger radio show. And then that little tidbit got lost when it went into TV because of ownership issues. Does it crop up every once in a while? I don’t know. I haven’t seen the recent movies. Any comments on that? I did some digging. NotRead More →

Hercule Poirot (David Suchet)

Quite literally listening to Poirot. Or rather David Suchet as Poirot. And everyone else. I wanted to listen to something on my podcast reader but wasn’t in the mood for anything I already had on it. So I got to digging around and found audiobooks of David Suchet reading the major Poirot novels. (Dig around on the Internet because they seem to be available everywhere.) I started with The Mysterious Affair at Styles because it is the first afterall but there are a lot of other Poirot books to choose from. It took a little while to get into it because he was doing allRead More →

I discovered this series last year when we started watching stuff on Amazon Prime. It may actually be on the AcornTV subscription of Amazon Prime. I love to watch British cozy mysteries. If I see a new-to-me one, it’s almost a compulsion to at least check it out. This one, though, was an acquired taste. When I first started watching it, I honestly didn’t think I was going to like the titular character. But she grew on me. Her method of investigating is definitely quicky. After 25 years of making the residents of the Cotswolds alternately laugh and gasp while solving any mystery that crossesRead More →

I had intended to post on another topic today but between slowly recovering from a cold, a bad elbow that’s limiting my typing and family activities over the weekend that post isn’t ready yet. However a mini-rant came to me out of the blue a couple of nights ago so you get the benefit of that. 😉 Anyway, I was in the mood for some detective shows and had sat down to watch the TIVO recording of Monday’s episode of the new Hawaii Five-O and immediately noticed that the description was only two sentences – not unusual – but one was about McGarrett’s personal life,Read More →

Tomorrow on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) there’s supposed to be a marathon of eleven Falcon movies on November 20 starting at 6 AM (Eastern, I think). God, I love watching those things, almost as much as The Thin Man movies. And if you ask my kids, you’d know I can’t get enough of those.  If you like the genre and even if you can’t watch all of them, try to watch/record the first one The Gay Falcon – it’s hilarious. The first time I finally caught it, I kept surprising myself by LOL, literally, at their antics.Read More →

I recently discovered The Mystery File, a site that reviews vintage mysteries, both book and movies. Today, they posted a schedule of movies that will be showing overnight on the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) channel. The first half of the list showing tonight are Stewart Granger flicks while the second half are The Saint movies and show tomorrow morning and afternoon into evening. Check it out if you love those old black and whites.Read More →

Just found this headline on CNN: ‘JAG’ ending after 10-year run’ And I’m torn. On the one hand, I really liked this series when it first came out. On the other, I haven’t watched it regularly in about three years. About the time Mac got engaged to Brumby. Talk about a big turnoff. So, maybe this is a good thing . . .Read More →
