Ever wondered which famous books have the most movie adaptations?

This article contains a fascinating list of books that have been made into movies multiple times. And the top one is probably the most interesting… and the least surprising. At the top of the list, Dracula by Bram Stroker has had 91 movies made from it according to this and that’s not at all surprising. Should probably add “and counting” to that, too. I wondered where The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (first Oz book) would fall but then remembered that it hasn’t actually been made into that many movies. There are a lot of Oz stories out there in video but not that many thatRead More →

I am continuing to read through the Harry Potter books and it’s really fascinating. I mean I knew they were good but they are even better than I remember. And there is so much that is catching me by surprise. Warning possible heavy spoilers ahead So, here are some things I don’t remember from Chamber of Secrets after only watching the movies for the last 20 years:Read More →

Awhile back I was looking up information on Agatha Christie, I think. Honestly not sure which author I was looking up. Anyway, I ran across this post and immediately saved it because, wow, that’s a lot of information in a small package. Basically, it’s a quick list of older biographies of well-known mystery writers. So, I thought I’d share. Happy hunting.Read More →

Lately I’ve been watching YouTube reactions to the Harry Potter movies and they got me in the mood to start rereading the books. Keep in mind that I have read them all but it was around the time the last few were coming out. So it’s been years. I have, however, watched and rewatched the movies. A lot. So rereading just the first, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was an eye-opener to say the least. Naturally, I thought I’d make some notes and post about it. What I wasn’t expecting was for my notes to simply be a list of… Warning possible heavy spoilersRead More →

Emilie Loring was born on September 5, 1866. Since I wanted to do a post for her birthday I started digging around online to see what I could find. Jackpot! I discovered that she has a biographer named Patti Bender. Who has a website and a blog. All about Emilie Loring. Lots of browsing commenced. And, of course, I had to share. Most of the romance readers I know of that have even heard of Emilie Loring, much less read her books, started when they were very, very young. So it doesn’t surprise me that this was on the home page of Dr. Patti Bender’sRead More →

(originally posted July 23, 2019) I just finished reading the last book in Dana Marie Bell’s Maggie’s Grove series, Hour of the Wolf and wow. Just wow. I’m not talking about just the last book. I’m talking about the entire series as a whole. I honestly tried to talk about these stories separately but there’s an overall villain plot in them that is so connected it’s almost impossible not to lump them together to keep from giving away major spoilers. Probably the only way I may try to do some posts on each individual book is to highlight each couple and their relationship. So considerRead More →

A mystery that was almost more romance than mystery

(first posted March 12, 2021) But that’s not the most intriguing part. It was originally published in 1925. By a man. Oh, and there’s more. It’s the first Charlie Chan novel by Earl Derr Biggers titled The House Without a Key.  As far as I know I’ve seen most of the Charlie Chan movies many times. I actually like them. Now I know that those movies are a point of contention regarding the fact that a white man was cast, not once but multiple times, as an Asian. It’s a valid point. It’s also how things were done then. However the thing that’s always struckRead More →

Must be something in the air because I ran across two posts related to cliffhangers on the same day recently. First there is this one about the Stargate SG1 writers and the uncertain future of the series in later seasons: Then later that same day I found this: I think overall I tend to avoid cliffhangers. Well, they don’t happen in romance novels very much to begin with. And with streaming nowadays, I usually wait until an entire TV series is complete. Or, at least I wait until another season is added. Problem solved. Of course the real problem is when another season (or book)Read More →

The Wheel of Time book series by Robert Jordan has an immense and devoted fan base. To the point that there are so very many fan sites and channels out there. To put it bluntly, It’s difficult to know where to start. Especially if one hasn’t even heard of the books before. So I thought I’d share the main sites that I – a relative newbie compared to my super-fan son – use to expand my own knowledge. WOT 101 First, if you are a complete newbie to the Wheel of Time – haven’t read the books and/or know basically zilch about them – thenRead More →

I do. I think of it as a to-be-read list for the digital age. But more on that in a moment. I’m not sure I’ve read a book or watched a TV series this week. I simply haven’t been in the right mood. At all. So I’ve spent most of my off time catching up on my YouTube watchlist. Which had gotten seriously out of control, let me tell ya. Other than that, I spent some time doing some mental housecleaning. What is my want-to-finish list? First of all, let me be clear that I’m not talking about stuff I’m working on for the website.Read More →

The Bridal Jitters novella introduces Jayne Castle’s world of Harmony but that world truly begins to take shape in the two book story of Lydia Smith & Emmett London called After Dark and After Glow. While writing this post I have gone back and forth on whether to talk about these two books separately or together. Together won because I can’t seem to talk about one without mentioning the other, apparently. So here goes. dust bunnies are simply adorable The most striking thing up front is that dust bunnies make their debut in After Dark (and by association After Glow) and they are truly winners.Read More →

And the next series of books I’m going to check out after finishing the Charlie Chan series. The Saint (Simon Templar) series by Leslie Charteris They’re probably more adventure than mystery and usually that would not be my cup of tea. But I ran across the old Roger Moore series on Prime the other day. At first I thought, well, I’ll watch the first couple of episodes and see if I like them.  Now, I am absolutely hooked. Not sure if it’s the pre-James Bond Roger Moore, the rather quirky character he plays or both but I love it. Templar kind of reminds me ofRead More →

This topic first came up when I was listening to an episode of All About Agatha. Then my recent experience with the Sherlock Holmes inspired Enola Holmes made me think about it some more. So I had to do some research. This was the episode of All About Agatha that caught my attention: Anthony Horowitz has his own novels. But it fascinates me that he also can manage to pass the test of writing characters created by someone else. Apparently from several different character brands. He wrote some of the Poirot episodes. And has also written new books about both James Bond and Sherlock Holmes.Read More →

the eye-catching name I recently ran across a movie on Netflix called Enola Holmes, which was an eye-catching name I admit. Then I noticed it was based on books so I did some research. It’s loosely based on the first book in a series of young adult novels by Nancy Springer. They are about a very much younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. The more I read about them the more I really was intrigued. Not enough to watch the movie… yet… but the interest was definitely there.  I finally got curious enough to get the first book, The Case of the Missing Marquess.Read More →

I’ve been in a really big reading mood this week. I’ve already reread several of Shelly Laurenston’s Pride books. It’s my absolute favorite comfort food romance series right now. And I read it over and over again. Sometimes multiple times a year. Here’s the thing, though. I was looking something up about one of the books and realized I hadn’t actually installed a library app on my new phone yet. I’ve been using an app called Book Catalogue for years. Which has always been a good app. However before putting it on the new phone I noticed it hadn’t been updated in… well, years.  Not aRead More →
