I had planned to post about something else this week but realizing the new Superman & Lois TV series had started last week changed all that.
In a heartbeat.
After watching the first two episodes, I have to say that I’m impressed with where this series is going. To be honest, I’ve only seen the two main actors as Superman and Lois here and there during Arrowverse crossovers so I wasn’t at all sure what to expect. But they are doing a really good job here.
The set up is that this is a more mature Clark/Superman and Lois who have two teenage sons. Twins, I think, although I’m not totally sure what their ages are. Sons who are just beginning to show the first glimmers of having some of their father’s abilities. That development and some other life events cause the family to beat a hasty retreat to the farm in Smallville to get away from the world – as much as possible – and work some things out.
And there is a lot to work out. Just saying. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing.
Okay, full disclosure here. As much as I love Superman and by extension Lois, CW series in general have never been my cup of tea. Way, way, way too much teenage angst. I couldn’t even really get into the first few years – okay the first five or six seasons – of Smallville because of that teenage angst quotient. Although if memory serves, was Smallville even originally a CW seires? Or did it simply end up there?
Whatever, I’m fully aware that if the series focuses too much on the sons, I’m personally going to have a problem sticking with it. At least until they get older. But we’ll see. So far these first two episodes have shown they know they need a balance between the sons and the parents.
A balance that seems to be working if the reviews that I’m seeing are any indication. I just hope they keep up the good work.
