‘Cause I think I’m way past that and heading into obsession, maybe? đ
Okay, I was going to save this post for Saturday but I couldn’t wait that long. Besides, I since I still have some to read I figure I’ll still have some to talk about then, too. Yeah, that works.
Anyway, this recent, er, over-indulgence started to truly steamroll when I finally read Michelle M. Pillow’s The Pirate Prince. It wasn’t my favorite of either group of hers but then again since this read was at the end of a reread of both the Dragon Lords and Lords of the Var groups, I may be too battle fatigued to decide properly. I mean, they’re shorter ebooks but, still, nine are still a lot to read straight in one weekend. I really like the universe she’s created, though, or I wouldn’t have doneĂ the excessive rereading.
And then sort of unknowingly I continued on in the same universe by immediately going online and buying all four, no wait five, ebooks from SamhainĂ from the Talon anthology. At least, I think it’s considered an anthology, even though they can be bought separately. I know her novella, Seize the Hunter is from the same universe as the Dragon and Var books because there’s something mentioned that’s in them, too. I gulped all five of those down almost with 24 hours of buying them. Give or take actually getting some work done, you know. But really, it was so refreshing to read about bird shifters that I can’t actually decide which story of the five I like best. I keep swinging back and forth between them on different points.
That was like Monday. Was that only two days ago? Somewhere between then and now, I went back to Samhain and did a search for shifter books, came up with a few titles I liked and ended up with four more books. Those are:
- The Lure of Passion by Eryn Blackwell – got it primarily because I couldn’t figure out what the heck they were supposed to be shifting into from the description, i.e. meaning animal, vegetable, mineral or maybe spirit?
- Seeing Eye Mate by Annmarie McKenna – This one I finished before starting some errands today. Classic wolf hero, classic pack set-up, toss in psychic mate, very good.
- Dragon’s Birth by Jennie Andrus – Okay this one I got primarily because my son is always asking if I’ve ever run across any stories about dragon shifters and now I can say I have. Well, at least after I’ve read it anyway.Â
- Kindred: The Shadows of the Night by Ellen Fisher – Curiosity factor at play here big time due to cougar-shifter heroine, stag-shifter hero, nuff said . . . can we say man-eater comes to mind? (Same dragon crazy son almost had a coronary when I mentioned this interesting-to-me romantic combination to him in passing. All he could manage to babble was something about her possibly having eaten his family so why in the world they would be dating in the first place. I have to get this boy to read more romances to toughen him up some. Hehehe.)
So, that’s my reading week so far. Wonder how many more shifters I can fit into it before I start seeing them in real life?
Wonder if this is some sort of vampire rebound at work?
Michelle: I really did enjoy the bird shifter stories in that group a lot and that surprised me. I guess for some reason I thought some of them might be darker than they were but, no, they were just right. Thanks for the great stories. đ
Hi Bev,
Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by the blog đ
The Talons books are a set. They released as seperate ebooks but will be released soon in a print collection. They were a lot of fun to write and I’m happy to be with so many talented author in the collection đ
Michelle
Yeah, you’d think, Cindy. At the moment, though, it’s not happening. Maybe because most of these have been shorter books? That’s probably the only thing keeping me going to be honest. Sort of like eating popcorn. Hehehe.
Hey, I did say I loved short stories. I’ve also missed ebooks lately. And I’d say most of these fall somewhere between category length and that. They’re definitely not long, so I’ve been able to wolf one down and keep right on reading. Er, pun sort of intended there. đ
Uh Bev, you’re heading into a were tunnel and you will soon be sick to death of them. Pace yourself! đ
Cindy
There is nothing that sparkles as much to me as a well done shorter story. I known many don’t like them but I’m addicted to the shorter ones. Guess it comes from starting out reading shorter romances and ebooks have only made that need reawaken. Those Talons stories were just right. Although I could easily revisit the worlds in them . . . ahem. đ
Of the 9 Samhain books you bought, 7 of them are my books đ I’m glad you liked the Talons books, they were such a fun project to develop, that I’m thinking about doing another one next year.
