I wasn’t even sure I was going to do a post this week. Or over the holidays. Because to be honest, I’m in a big reading mood. Okay a flat out binge of just about all my Shelly Laurenston books. Some other authors too.
And every time I think about writing a post on any of them… well, I go back to reading instead. So I think I may simply work on background stuff for the next week or two. Anyway, don’t expect any in-depth posts until after the New Year. Maybe links. Maybe nothing. Whatever.
However, and speaking of links, I found out something very, very interesting recently that’s definitely book related. And it kind of blew my mind. Put it this way, I’m still digesting this one.
Okay, here’s the news bit – a certain historical romance author’s books are now a TV series. That starts airing on Netflix this December 25.
Whoa! Seriously, wow!
I think I have all the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn and have read most of them. Not sure about some of books about the younger siblings but I know I at least read until Colin’s story. Because that’s the one I remember the most.
To be honest, I still don’t know if I even want to try to watch this one. It’s not simply that converting romances into movies or TV series are iffy projects at best. Because they are. It’s one thing to have a happy ending at the, well, end. But a happily ever after that continues on the screen does not lend itself to being developed into an extended drama without problems being tossed in… just for the sake of drama. I mean, come on, love stories are always prime targets for soap opera elements or just plain tragedy to sneak in. Which is not really what I want from “romance” as a genre. Or do I want to see that “corrupted” onscreen either.
Yeah, I’m still mulling this one over. But if you’re interested I found a couple of articles that might explain where they’re going with this one. You probably want to know some of that before you watch, too. Just saying.
