Does anyone else’s book-buying go in cycles? Or am I simply a more eclectic romance reader than most. A week or so ago I found three books in my TBR basket at the same time that were in first person. This was unusual enough to make me stop and take notice. Then, today, I realized that the two books I bought this week are both romantic suspense. Again, a rather unusual occurrence. I’m not even completely sure I like romantic suspense on general principle so in retrospect I have to wonder what I was thinking to buy two at once. I do like the two authors, however, so I guess that explains it, er, my sudden weakness I mean.
The first is Merline Lovelace’s The First Mistake, which appears to be the first book in a romantic trilogy. And a possible love triangle between a former special agent heroine and two hunky heroes. I could live with a same character trilogy. And even the love triangle. Yes! Yes! Yes!
Okay, I’ll stop gushing now.
The second is Kathleen Nance’s Jigsaw. Now this one surprised me because I didn’t realize she was moving into romantic suspense even though she has done some paranormal romances that were leaning that way. The cover looks very Gothic, too, which is interesting, too.
More about both later.
P.S. And just so you won’t think I only talk about what I haven’t read yet, I’m currently reading Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase and will post about it just as soon as I finish it.
There’s a new rom-sus author coming on the scene. It’s Cindy Gerard who has written for Silhouette Desire for years. She has a book out from St. Martin’s next month — TO THE EDGE. I had the privilege of reading an early copy and I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed them all, although they were really only loosely connected. Well, except for the first and last book because they were both written by Susan Grant. Each one works well as a stand-alone. What impressed me most about Day of Fire was how well she managed to capture the flavour, as it were, of Canada.
But I thought the series a great idea and thought it worked well.
I discovered Nance with More than Magic, I think was the title. The one about Darius. I loved that book because it was so, well, not exactly a lot different but still different in its own way.
I also have at least three of the five 2176 books and eventually intend to get the rest but so far I’ve only read the first. So tell me, how do they hold up as a connected group?
I just started the Kathleen Nance book this morning. I “discovered” her with Day of Fire in the 2176 series, really liked it and got some of her other releases and really enjoyed them too (except for the covers – ughh). So when I saw she was spreading into romantic suspense, a genre I’ve been getting into more and more, I figured I’d give this one a shot. I’m barely into it but so far so good.
Oh, and as far as my book buying goes, I try and vary it. For example, when I bought Jigsaw I got Hush – Jo Leigh and Lips That Touch Mine by Wendy Lindstom. I like variety 🙂
Thanks for the encouragement. So far I’m up to chapter three and enjoying it, so there is hope. Now if I can get the family to leave me alone in peace so I can read . . . 🙂
oooo I love that Loretta Chase. I’ll be back to see what you say it. (I just got my copy)
