I do have a couple of longer posts in the works but they aren’t ready yet. Plus, I’ve been having some shoulder problems the last couple of days and not really feeling like doing a lot of typing. So I jumped at the chance to do a quick post even if it is about The Wheel of Time. Again.
Anyway, the New York Comic Con 2021 is going on this weekend and a bunch of people related to the new WOT TV series are speaking. As a result a lot of news is dropping. Hourly. This one is of particular interest:
My initial reaction? Nice! Very nice. Gorgeous actually. And very on-point with the characters. In just a short sequence it manages to evoke so many things. A busy night in a relatively isolated small town inn with everything going on at once. The crucial main characters are all present, recognizable and just being themselves. Then it shows the arrival of the two outsiders, the lady and her bodyguard, and the immediate reaction of the locals. Especially their reaction to the knowledge that she is Aes Sedai, one of a powerful group of individuals both revered and feared throughout their world. Yeah, that would get everyone’s complete attention.
Now I’ve noticed some people are slightly miffed that Moiraine comes right out and immediately reveals who, or rather what, she is. Because she doesn’t right away in the books. But here’s the thing, you know how I’ve talked about how big these books are? And they are supposedly doing the first book plus something of the second in eight episodes for season one? The way I see it, story-wise, they don’t have time to drag out what is basically a minor revelation in the larger story. They have to get moving because there is a lot to come.
