I recently got a promo from Amazon for The Truth About Love by Stephanie Laurens (Vane’s brother-in-law’s book) and while online ordering it, I suddenly remembered that I’ve never ordered Linnea Sinclair’s paperbacks. Part of my procrastination on this has to do with fear that being published in print will ruin her voice but on that day I was in the right mood I guess so decided to bite the bullet. First, though, I checked to make sure they weren’t trade paperbacks.
Mini-rant here – I really HATE trade size paperbacks particularly when publishers don’t come out with mass market editions quickly. Here’s a question, I can understand publishing stand alone books as trade but why in the world do publishers do books in the middle of series that way? There are actually a couple of books by one of my favorite auto-buy authors that I haven’t got yet because they’re only available in trade and they’re in the MIDDLE of a set of related books. GRRRRRR. Okay, rant over. I think. I am still breathing hard though. Did I mention I really hate this trend?
Anyway, back to book buying, I ended up getting the Cynster book plus Accidental Goddess, Finders Keepers and, my all-time favorite by Sinclair, Gabriel’s Ghost. They arrived close to the end of last week while I still had company so I wasn’t able to start reading until last Saturday when I wolfed down, er, read (reread?) Gabriel’s Ghost. I’ll save long comments on it for another post, maybe after I’ve finished all three for comparison.
The short version? I was both pleased and displeased with the new edition of GG.
That should get you curious. ;p
Hey again! Hope you’re feeling better. 🙂 This is the first chance I’ve had to check back on your blog–just moved to a new house or rather, am still in the midst of post-move lunacy! Working off a laptop at the kitchen counter…LOL!
Gabriel’s wings–well, yes, that is a valid issue. My editor at Bantam nixed them. My agent and I tried to sway her but to no avail. I mean, I DID name him Gabriel for a reason… but so it goes. That was my only disappointment with the rewrite of the book. Hope that wasn’t too off-putting for you…I am working on the sequel, CHASIDAH’S CHOICE, which will be out 2007. Can’t add in the wings but in all other ways it promises to be a great read! Hope you’ll hang in there for it. 🙂
Looking forward to the rest of your thoughts. Hugs, ~Linnea
Well, hello. (G) Sorry it took so long to respond back here but I’ve been laid low by a virus for the last few days. Okay, most of last week if one counts the migraine.
Anyway, I’m still working on my thoughts overall but the short version is that while I still loved the story, I was quite surprised by how negatively I reacted to the changes in the description of Gabriel’s “other” form. I miss the wings! Badly!
I’m very curious as to the pleasure and displeasure on GABRIEL’S GHOST, my dear. Know well I may agree with you–or not. ::wide evil grin:: Looking forward to your input. I of all people never feel I know it all. Hugs, ~Linnea
