I was updating my shopping list this morning and finally got around to ordering another book or books from this author because I enjoyed Simply Irresistible so much when I first read it. Okay, yeah, the Superman references didn’t hurt, but still, I really liked the book. I couldn’t order them all from Amazon but did order Totally Spellbound and Absolutely Captivated. I’ll have to check the UBS over the weekend. I did find something interesting when I finally tracked down her website, however.

Anyone read her books? I mean her other books. Apparently she’s published in mystery, romance, science fiction and fantasy. Who knew. Really, did anyone else know this?

(Mini-edit here: I forgot to mention that she uses several AKAs, apparently each one for a different genre, so if you’re not sure you’ll probably need to check the link above to find out what all of them are.)

Oh, and a slight PS: I also ordered Stobie Piel’s Prince of Ice while I was at it. I would’ve ordered The Dark Queen by Susan Carroll thank’s to Rosario’s very impressive rec but then realized it was trade size. Not gonna happen. Guess I’ll either wait for the mass market or a new ebook reader. Sigh.

  1. Maw: I suspect they may be darker than I usually like but occassionally I’ll try something out of my comfort zone so I’m definitely going to have to figure some way to at least check out the first one of the Carroll trilogy. 😀

Slunsford: It really surprised me when I checked her website and saw all those genres listed. Wow. I may check out her mysteries.

  2. I’ve read Grayson’s earlier fantasy books under the name Kristina Kathryn Rusch. They were excellent, but are probably out of print. She writes a science fiction series under that name. I can’t remember the name of the series, but check the science fiction section at the bookstore or check under the Rusch name on line. I think they all got excellent reviews. She also wrote mysteries about an African-American man, but I can’t remember under what name.

  3. Hi Bev. For me, I got into the books and read them quickly, not that the subject matter was light. It’s a great storyline and all the stories fit together. I read Dark Queen and Courtesan back to back & had to wait for The Silver Rose.

  4. Holly: I’ve only read Simply Irresistible but I really liked it and had intended to get more by her then let the thought slip through the cracks of my shopping list. This particular group of spin-offs seems to be more “fractured fairy tales” than anything else so I wouldn’t call them deep but definitely fun.

Marg: I just don’t like the way trade feels in my hands, so no I don’t buy them unless absolutely necessary. Meaning unless the book won’t come out in mmp and only then when I absolutely can’t live without it. And that don’t happen too often.

Maw: I’ll see, but it’ll probably be a while before I do it. Have to get in the right mindset. 😀 And did you really think they were quick reading? From what Rosario was saying about them, I’d have thought they weren’t that light.

Tara: I rarely go to the library these days but I might just for this trilogy. As to the Grayson books, I’ll have to see if I can dig out my original comments on SI that I posted on my site when I first read it. I’m pretty sure I still have them around here somewhere.

  5. Get the Carrol books from the Library, they’re really worth reading. It takes forever for her books to go mm.

I’ve never read Kristine Grayson, I’m curious to hear your thoughts about all these books.

  6. If you check at Borders, sometimes they have a special buy 3, get 4th free. That’s how I bought the Dark Queen & The Courtesan. When The Silver Rose came out, I ordered it from Amazon @ $10. Good series. Quick reading.

  7. You know, I haven’t read her at all. Is she good? If so, I’ll check her out.
