I’ve been wanting to rewatch this one for a while and when I found out Fringe was on Prime through IMDB (who knew they had their own channel?) I started an immediate binge. Seriously I watched or read very little of anything else while binging on it except for the occasional palate cleanser cozy mystery episode here and there.
I’m kind of blown away, too. I mean I remember liking it a lot when I first watched it but it seems even better than I remember. It’s only 5 seasons, or 4 1/2 since the last is only a half season, but it packs a lot into those. I’m currently organizing a full series summary post but I wanted to jot down some of my initial thoughts.
First, at least for me, it’s a complete package. Seriously, Fringe is one of those rare cases of having it all in a T series – explorers, detectives, soul mates, adventurers AND superheroes. Right now, some people are probably going, wait, it doesn’t have superheroes. To that I say when I get around to the summary and list the things Olivia can do, ask me that again. The only true weak one on that list is adventurers but considering what they actually get up to in this series, I think I can make a case for that one too at least relating to more than just a couple of episodes.
Plus, and I don’t say this often, it’s a phenomenal character study… of multiple characters. I don’t believe it would be a spoiler to say that the whole premise of Fringe has to do with alternate realities because it’s pretty much the first thing that comes up in descriptions if you do a search online. So basically you have these core characters and then you get to see various versions of them. Multiple various versions. The thing that always blows my mind rewatching it is that I start liking the alternate versions that start out seeming to be bad guys. Or gals. It’s truly a mind-boggling series and I mean that in many ways.
I almost want to watch it again immediately.
Anyone else a fan of Fringe?
