These are some of my personal/family favorite Christmas movies that we usually watch in the days leading up to Christmas. The first one isn’t even a Christmas movie (but if you are of a certain age you may know why it’s on this list) and two of them are favorite animated classics.
The Wizard of Oz (1938)
When I was very little, not saying when, this movie aired on TV every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Therefore I will always and forever believe it should be rewatched a week or two before Christmas.
A Claymation Christmas Celebration (1987)
For some reason the Claymation Christmas Celebration has always stuck in my memory becaus it’s so unique in terms of Christmas animated specials. My favorite numbers are the California Raisins Rudolf number and also Ring the Bells.
Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
Some people prefer It’s a Wonderful Life but for me this is the ultimate heartwarming Christmas movie. I mean, the one and only Santa Claus certified by the US goverment, er, Post Office. Really.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964 Rankin-Bass stop motion animation)
I’m not even sure I need to say anything here. First off it’s Burl Ives singing and narrating. Frankly, that’s enough of a winner. But then there’s these charming characters to bring to life the classic song.
And finally…
Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye hamming it up lip-syncing
Wait that’s cute but not right…
Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen (voiced over) singing Sisters
Better but not there yet…
White Christmas (1954)
I actually like to watch this one on either Christmas Eve or Day, whenever I have the time. There’s just nothing to compare to it musically or visually when it comes to Christmas movies.
So what are your favorites?
