Because suddenly it’s very okay for a superhero to have families & children.
Well, that’s not to say that there haven’t always been superhero families that pass their hero mantles, er, masks and/or capes down through the generations. Most notably the very first costumed superhero, The Phantom, was flat-out a “legacy” hero. We’re talking about twenty plus generations for The Phantom, so, yeah, definitely a family thing going on.
Now, plenty of superheroes share their responsibilities with others in their inner circle. There we’re normally talking side-kicks or sidekicks who grown into completely new roles. Most famous? Batman’s sidekick, Dick Grayson, outgrowing Robin and becoming Nightwing. Which allows a new Robin to take his place. And the cycle continues.
They aren’t normally the hero’s own children, though. (And, yeah, I do know about Damien Wayne.)
That seems to be changing in a big way and yet again Superman and Lois are leading the way. Literally within days of each other I hear of two new TV series coming out this year that deal with superhero legacies. One of them even has that word in the title.

first episode aired April 2

available May 7
I’m not going to say anything more about them now because, yeah, I’m definitely checking them out.
