But before I get to that, let me update you on what I’ve found out so far from the neurologist about my headaches since that’s what’s lead me to this chair epiphany.
I actually don’t back to see him until this Thursday but after the x-rays he did of my neck, he immediately ordered a second MRI – the first was of the brain for the headaches, the second of the neck because I’ve always had neck and shoulder problems. Turns out I have degerative arthritis in the neck, which isn’t that far progressed but is probably contributing to the headaches in a big way. So, he’s already started me on physical theraphy. I’ve had PT before for my neck and shoulders so some of this may be old hat but I think I may need a refresher course anyway. OTOH, the medication he started me on is working wonders with the migraines already. So much so that the headaches had begun to recede enough for me to know I had more of a problem in my neck even before his office called to tell me he needed the MRI for more detail on my neck. Though in the mild level now, the almost constant pain I have is definitely radiating from my neck not from the migraines and it took drastically cutting back on the painkillers and getting the actual headaches to abate to know this.
Don’t you almost hate it when specialist actually know what they’re doing? ;p
Then again, that’s why I wanted to go to this one. He’s the neurologist who saw our parents when we were at our wits end with them and I knew he was thoughtful, thorough and just damn good people skills-wise. I’ll take a listening any day over someone who knows everything. Well, most of the time at any rate.
Anyway, back to the chair problem. This has all got me to thinking that I really need to rethink the way I sit when I read. Somehow, I tend to believe that slumped in the bed is not the best way to read. At least I tend to think the physical therapist wouldn’t approve. Heck, I’m not even sure curling up at the end up the couch is acceptable. OTOH, I honestly have no idea (ideal?) of what kind of chair to look for that would be both comfortable and good in terms of posture. Any suggestions?
Anyone have (had?) similar problems and come up with workable solutions?
‘Cause I’m certainly not giving up reading . . .
Oh my! I’m glad that they are beginning to isolate the problem and I hope they will be able to do something about the pain.
I have no clue about proper chairs but I love husband’s La-Z-boy with it’s vibration and heat (it was finally fixed) – it reclines and you can have your feet up so I think it would support your back well as you can only really sit in this chair in one position.
Hopefully a few people will be able to make some recommendations.
Cindy (another template change I see ;))
