Fringe is one of those TV series that I wasn’t entirely sure I would like when I first discovered it. Now I usually rewatch it about once a year. I knew it was science fiction before I first watched it but I wasn’t sure what type. To be honest, I’m still not sure how to classify it except to call it mind-bending.
Also good. Very very good. Kind of like X-Files on steroids kind of good. X-Files teased aliens invading Earth but never quite proved it. The inability to do that leaves the later seasons kind of flat feeling in a lot of ways. Among other problems that series had in later years.
Fringe, on the hand, shows right off the bat that there is something very wrong in their world. Then it takes that concept and flat-out messes with the viewer’s mind for the rest of the series. Plus it sticks the ending with a shortened final season to wrap things up.
And is brilliant doing it all. How brilliant?
