For the most part, I read one book at a time with one major qualification. I have two of those padded book covers and use the oldest for rereads and the newer one for first time reads. This system makes it easy to spot at a glance which is which but the downside is that I tend to get twitchy if there isn’t something in each of them. So, even though I tend to finish “reading” one book before starting another, I also tend to cheat on that by visiting with old friends. Otherwise, known as rereading or skimming the good parts.
Currently Seal Island by Kate Brallier is in the new cover. I’ve had this one for about a month and already mentioned it here a couple of times. I kept thinking about picking it up to read and then hesitated. I’m not sure if the reason was that it’s in first person or something else but it was brought back to my attention when someone on the RRA-l mentioned it the other day in a discussion of modern Gothic romances. This kind of raised my eyebrows because, even though the cover is kind of moody looking, I hadn’t thought of it as a Gothic-type story. So, of course, I had to check it out immediately.
The Last Warrior by Kristen Kyle is in the old cover. Pulling this one off the shelves to reread the other day reminded me that Kyle is one of those authors who write truly unique romances and I need to check to see what she has out new. This one is about a San Francisco heroine who hires the hero, who was raised in Japan and trained as a samurai, to protect her father from his enemies.
Off my head: NIGHT HAWK [futuristic], PROMISE OF GOLD [sea pirate historical], THE LAST WARRIOR [American historical], urr… let me check … TOUCHED BY GOLD [“New Mexico Territory, 1897”]. That’s four in total.
Perhaps, but from what she says at her site, she couldn’t afford to carry on writing. Like I say, a pity. 🙁
Well, bummer, but thanks for the heads up. I’ll have to check her website. If that’s the case, then, I bet I already have all of hers. What were there four or five total?
Wonder if it has anything to do with her books being really unusual. Hmmm. One wouldn’t think so but it’s a thought to stop and ponder.
I *love* Kristen Kyle’s works. She’s no longer writing. 🙁 She states her reasons, at her web site a while ago, why jacked in her writing career. She’s done only four or five books so far. A pity.
