Because it’s Halloween, I got in the mood to rewatch the Harry Potter movies. Then I decided to record my random observations, at least during the first movie. Read and remember. That is if you’ve read the books or seen the movies. If not– SPOILERS AHEAD! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! I’ve organized this according to the scene titles from the DVD for clarity. Also because I wanted to post this on Halloween I ran out of time and only linked to a few images so I may come back and add more later.  1. Quick WOT update first. I finished Book 3 The Shadow Rising and started on Book 4 The Fires of Heaven after a weekend break. I’m working on a WOT related post where I interview my son about being a die-hard fan of the series but that’s on hold until I can pin him down to talk about it. Now on to one of my personal fan obsessions. (Although not as obsessed as he is about WOT.) I love this print and want it for Christmas! When I first ran across it I didn’t see the Dean Cain Superman so I passed over it. Then IRead More →

I ran across “Doctor Who: The Time War Was Genius (& Moffat Made It Even Better)” on Screen Rants and was left rather bemused. Maybe because Screen Rants is rather hit and miss with me. But I agree with this one even though I hadn’t thought about it that way before. Put it this way, I’m a big fan of the new Doctor Who but have tried to watch the classic version and just… can’t. Maybe if I skipped to later seasons it would work for me but starting at the very beginning does not. Nope. No way.  I’d never really thought about how the TimeRead More →

I’ve been wanting to rewatch this one for a while and when I found out Fringe was on Prime through IMDB (who knew they had their own channel?) I started an immediate binge. Seriously I watched or read very little of anything else while binging on it except for the occasional palate cleanser cozy mystery episode here and there.  I’m kind of blown away, too. I mean I remember liking it a lot when I first watched it but it seems even better than I remember. It’s only 5 seasons, or 4 1/2 since the last is only a half season, but it packs a lotRead More →

Editing note: As I get older and technology gets better, I’ve found myself making more “research notes” about what I read and watch and play and, well, you get the idea. So much so that I’ve come up with an outline of the things I want to remember for myself and I’m applying it more and more. This is my first attempt at actually using that outline to create a type of post which I’m calling a Summary. If it works I may do more. Background I think I became aware of the legend of the Monkey King when I first saw The Forbidden KingdomRead More →

I’ve been stressed out this last week due to an upcoming medical procedure so my mind hasn’t been on posting regularly. So I thought I’d just do a quick update post on what I’ve been reading, watching and playing recently.  I got in the mood a week or so ago to reread the Dana Marie Bell’s Maggie’s Grove supernatural romance series. I love those books. While I was reading (devouring) them again for the umpteenth time, I realized that she had a new one coming out on July 22. Big yahoo! So I”m planning on doing a post on the new book specifically and theRead More →

Yes, I do love the original, SG1, very much. Multiple rewatchings to the point of starting to rate individual episodes. In a pinch, I can watch Atlantis but it’s not my favorite. Universe does not exist for me. Just saying. So I was very interest when I ran across this video about the history of this beloved science fiction franchise: This the first of three parts and I enjoyed all of them. I think you can also check on the channel they’re on for a video that compiles them into one but that’s like an hour long so fair warning.Read More →

I had just finished devouring the first season of the new Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries when I ran across a review of it. So, let’s start with a quote from that first: Overall, Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries was a happy surprise since I loved it just as much as Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. I only wish there were more than four episodes in this first season. While the first episode is a bit of a slow start, it met then exceeded my expectations. Fans of Phryne Fisher should be pleased to see her legacy continue with the charming Peregrine Fisher. ‘MS. FISHER’S MODERN MURDER MYSTERIES’ REVIEWRead More →

I was never a Mulder & Scully shipper when the series was airing. I always saw their relationship as soul mates but platonic ones. And that’s the way I remember them. So as I’m re-watching the series, I realize I had forgotten how flirty they were in the early seasons of X-Files. Okay flirty might not be the right word but I don’t know what else to call it especially on Scully’s part. Mulder is semi-oblivious. He has his moments but they are more blink and you miss them than Scully’s.  Right now I’m at the end of season 2 and they seem to be settling into the relationship I do remember. It’ll be interesting toRead More →

I grew up watching her movies and TV series because my mother was a huge fan so I’ve been trying to put together a post on her for the last week or so. Then I ran across an article that pretty much says everything I’d say so here it is: Very, very few classic film stars still remain with us. With the passing of Doris Day in May, that number sadly becomes even more minuscule. So, today we remember wonderful Doris Day movies in tribute. 12 MOVIES WITH DORIS DAY, QUEEN OF ROMANTIC COMEDIES My personal favorite is probably a close tie between Glass BottomRead More →

I’m not that much on horror. Like at all. Honestly, I do not seek horror out but it occasionally finds me, usually when I stumble into a movie has some horror elements. I might even make it to the end of the movie. But I ain’t gonna read horror. Just, no. Recently, though, I decided to start rewatching X-Files. The original. From the beginning. In small bits of a couple of episodes at a time. Don’t know how far I will make it but we’ll see. Thing is, I had forgotten just how much horror there was in that series. Really hilarious.  Okay, full disclosure. I watched the first season or so of the Merlin TV series when it first aired. And then it just got too ridiculous for me. Or ridiculous and overly dramatic. Oh, I don’t know how to put it. It was kind of like watching some bizarre fractured fairy tale and while most of the time that works for me, hence the attempt at liking it, this one just didn’t work. I did, however, watch the series finale after it went off the air and I may eventually watch it all the way through. So I’m not giving up. Having saidRead More →

Okay, just for the record this post will probably contain some slight spoilers but, seriously, anyone who doesn’t have some idea of the major beats of this story has been living in a cave for the last three decades.  Anyway, my children got me these two videos for Mother’s Day. Boy, do they know their mother.  My son and I ended up watching it together on Mother’s Day and the only thing that really threw us was starting out with basically the New 52 Superman in The Death of Superman… who was hooked on and apparently dating Lois Lane. This is the first post in an ongoing series each Sunday that I’m calling my weekly “reading” journal. Reading is in quotes there because it’s actually going to be a running log of what book reading, video watching and game playing I manage to get in during a week plus any other random thoughts that come up. One of the reasons it’s going to be so freewheeling is that I’ve been experimenting with dictating my thoughts into notes on my phone (and/or typing/editing them up if I’m at a computer) whenever the mood strikes. The idea is to then just copy and paste into aRead More →
