Ever wondered which famous books have the most movie adaptations?

This article contains a fascinating list of books that have been made into movies multiple times. And the top one is probably the most interesting… and the least surprising. At the top of the list, Dracula by Bram Stroker has had 91 movies made from it according to this and that’s not at all surprising. Should probably add “and counting” to that, too. I wondered where The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (first Oz book) would fall but then remembered that it hasn’t actually been made into that many movies. There are a lot of Oz stories out there in video but not that many thatRead More →

endings that nail the whole package

Originally posted on May 16, 2006 (See addendum at end of post) I just caught myself re-watching the ending to the movie Dirty Dancing. Again. Please note that I do not own a copy of this movie and I never re-watch the entire thing. I’m not even sure I like the whole thing. Yet, somehow, I routinely manage to find a way to re-watch the last ten minutes or so of it whenever I run across it on the tube and it’s replayed an amazing number of times so that’s added up over the years. I just love the ending of that movie, though. There’sRead More →

Yes, I have watched and loved the new Netflix Avatar: The Last Airbender live action series. Seriously, I think they did a phenomenal job for an eight episode season. Life, however, has been so chaotic recently that I haven’t had time to decide how I’m going to comment on it. Or do much posting at all. I’m getting there, though, and mostly because of Notion. Can I just say that I’m starting to love that app. Software. Whatever you call it nowadays. In the meantime, here’s this collection of Iroh and Zuko scenes from the original cartoon. You know a series is something special whenRead More →

or some reasons I love Avatar: The Last Airbender When the original promo for Avatar the Last Airbender (ATLA) first came out I was intrigued. It seemed to have a fairly simple premise with a lot of possibility. So when the pilot episode for it aired on February 21, 2005, I was primed and waiting to watch it. By the time we finished that first episode of ATLA I knew something magical was happening. I just didn’t know how magical it was going to be ultimately until the series was finished. my first 9 reasons for the magic (spoiler free) #10 The bending AKA theRead More →

Avatar: TLA live action is going to be phenomenal if the trailer is anything to go by

I’ve been impatiently waiting for the official trailer just like everyone else. Not simply to see more but because I knew it should include the characters interacting. That is a very good test of whether this one has any chance of success or not. And this trailer almost takes my breath away on that count. It’s not just that they appear to have nailed the casting and the world. It’s that they’ve nailed the humor. Let’s be honest here, there is reason that so many people go into watching the original cartoon thinking it’s just a kids show but come away devoted fans for life.Read More →

Yeah, they’re talking about doing a a live action Minecraft movie. Honestly, the idea makes my brain hurt. And I found the perfect post to explain why without me having to think about it. Because, shudder. He does bring up some very good points about why even considering this is problematical. Seriously, why even go there?Read More →

First posted Dec 18 2018, reposted with minor edits and links updated as needed These are some of my personal/family favorite Christmas movies that we usually watch in the days leading up to Christmas. The first one isn’t even a Christmas movie (but if you are of a certain age you may know why it’s on this list) and two of them are favorite animated classics.  When I was very little, not saying when, this movie aired on TV every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Therefore I will always and forever believe it should be rewatched a week or two before Christmas.  For some reasonRead More →

Fringe is one of those TV series that I wasn’t entirely sure I would like when I first discovered it. Now I usually rewatch it about once a year. I knew it was science fiction before I first watched it but I wasn’t sure what type. To be honest, I’m still not sure how to classify it except to call it mind-bending. Also good. Very very good. Kind of like X-Files on steroids kind of good. X-Files teased aliens invading Earth but never quite proved it. The inability to do that leaves the later seasons kind of flat feeling in a lot of ways. Do I really have to explain why I’m posting about this? Wow, I have to say I’m impressed. The world looks right, the bending looks right (we’ll wait and see if they nail the martial arts too) and they appear to have picked the perfect cast. Now to see if they do the story justice. It all started when I saw where Richard Moll had passed away. He played Bull Shannon on the original Night Court (1984). And it got me curious enough to dig around & see if it was streaming on anything I had access to. You know, just to check it out and see if it was as funny as I remember. I have never been that big on sit-coms. So, there are really only a few that I watched from beginning to end. I thought Night Court was one of them but wanted to double-check. So I watched the first few episodes. Then a few more.Read More →

James Oliver Ridney, Jr. – AKA Robert Jordan – was born on October 17, 1948. Sadly, he passed away on September 16, 2007, from a rare medical condition that directly affected his heart. Best known as the author of The Wheel of Time fantasy book series, he was and still is beloved by his fans. I’ve mentioned several times that my son is a longtime, hardcore fan of the WOT series which has exposed me to a lot about this extremely interesting man over the years. In fact, I read the Origins of the Wheel of Time: The Legends and Mythologies That Inspired Robert JordanRead More →

(originally posted March 9, 2020) I’ve been wanting to do some episode summaries for Scooby Doo but there’s just so many episodes to choose from. This cartoon series has gone through so many incarnations in the 50 years it’s been on TV continuously. It’s hurting my brain figuring out where to start. I like so many of them. Then I ran across this video on YouTube that is an excellent recap of the history of the series. And to be honest there were some things in it I didn’t know. It’s given me some ideas about how to proceed. So enjoy.Read More →

I just finished a re-watch binge of Eureka, so I had to talk about it. It’s an amazing little (five seasons & 77 episodes) TV series the SyFy channel created in 2006. If you like science fiction, especially lighter science fiction combined with comedy, do give Eureka a try.  Basically the story begins like this:  Colin Ferguson as Jack Carter is Eureka And an absolute jewel as the central character of the series. I’m honestly not sure anyone else could’ve brought Jack Carter to life so well. Particularly as the every-man Sheriff bringing law and order to the chaos that is Eureka. Sure, there are manyRead More →

Mainly because The Why Files is quite possibly one of, if not the, best YouTube channel I’ve ever run across. But, why? Well, first, here is AJ’s description of his content: “The Why Files is a channel for people who are fascinated (obsessed) with mysteries, myths, legends and conspiracies. We tell stories, seek the truth, and have a few laughs along the way.” The Why Files: About It very much lives up to that description, too. And then some. But it’s not the subject matter, precisely, that makes this channel so good. It’s the way AJ presents it. He starts out by telling the “story”Read More →

Because there are two TV series I have to watch releasing seasons then. Well, around then anyway. First up is the new Asoka series which starts on August 23. To be honest, I’m kind of iffy on this one. Sure, I’m curious but I was never that big a fan of The Clone Wars so… we’ll just have to see. Then there is the big one, at least in this family, the second season of The Wheel of Time releases on September 1. So, yeah, lots of new episodes in September.Read More →
