I will freely admit that watching The Mandalorian with my son has revived (from the dead pretty much) my love of Star Wars. It’s something I don’t normally do but I’m currently in the middle of two books. And it wouldn’t be happening at all if one of them wasn’t a non-fiction. Over the holidays I re-watched The Court Jester (1955) starring Danny Kaye & Basil Rathbone. It’s my favorite Danny Kaye movie and very much a spoof of other more serious swashbucklers. I was digging around on Amazon a month or so ago and ran across this British series which is described as a serious cold case detective series with a lot of comedy. At first I was not really sold on the idea. Then I looked at some reviews and people were raving about it. Well, at least for the first nine seasons. I’m not all that crazy about sit-coms. Never have been. I mean, when we still had traditional TV access, I would occasionally watch one enough to know the characters. But usually those were the fad-of-the-moment that everyone else was watching too. At least a little. You know the ones you can’t get away from because everyone is talking about them. This topic first came up when I was listening to an episode of All About Agatha. Then my recent experience with the Sherlock Holmes inspired Enola Holmes made me think about it some more. So I had to do some research. This was the episode of All About Agatha that caught my attention: Anthony Horowitz has his own novels. But it fascinates me that he also can manage to pass the test of writing characters created by someone else. Apparently from several different character brands. He wrote some of the Poirot episodes. the eye-catching name I recently ran across a movie on Netflix called Enola Holmes, which was an eye-catching name I admit. Then I noticed it was based on books so I did some research. It’s loosely based on the first book in a series of young adult novels by Nancy Springer. They are about a very much younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. The more I read about them the more I really was intrigued.
