At least I used to think so. Oh, okay, I still think so. I do. I really do. It’s just that the last several times I’ve been to our local one I’ve been extremely disappointed and it’s started to sour me on the experience. It’s also made me all philosophical. Not a good thing at this time of year. But, when one thinks about it, doesn’t it make sense that the, um, less well received books would be the ones consistently turned back into the used stores? See I don’t mean occassionally turned in. I know there are going to be those gems turn upRead More →

After some further thought, and a hefty dose of real life, I decided that a full-fledged weekly, ahem, guide wasn’t going to cut it for me yet, so I’ve pruned it back to a four day one. Basically, that’s every other day. I can do that. I may not even manage it every single week but I figure I can come close most of the time. So, here’s what I’m aiming for: Sunday: Accessories and/or collectibles Tuesday: Rambling rumblings  Thursday: Blog watch Saturday: Reading basket That leaves Monday, Wednesday & Fridays free for posting about individual books with no particular schedule where I can also play around on those character, plot & specialRead More →

But before I get to that, let me update you on what I’ve found out so far from the neurologist about my headaches since that’s what’s lead me to this chair epiphany. I actually don’t back to see him until this Thursday but after the x-rays he did of my neck, he immediately ordered a second MRI – the first was of the brain for the headaches, the second of the neck because I’ve always had neck and shoulder problems. Turns out I have degerative arthritis in the neck, which isn’t that far progressed but is probably contributing to the headaches in a big way. So,Read More →

But first let me tell you about a couple of books I picked up this week. Conqueror’s Kiss by Hannah Howell – I couldn’t get past this one in the grocery store. No reason really other than I seem to be gathering up her Highlander group like mad in recent months. And enjoying most of them. Love in a Bottle by Zoe Archer – Okay, I honestly have no idea why I picked this one up. Really. Except the cover is a gorgeous purple. Hmmm, does that sound as weak to the rest of you? Well, the line in the blurb about beautiful fungus probablyRead More →

We just “upgraded” to satellite broadband as our Internet connection this week. It should save some money in the long run once some of the odd expenses we no longer need because of it are subtracted off the budget. So, anyway, I’ve been spending the last few days getting used to not having time to read a book while browsing the Internet. Okay that might be considered a drawback but still. 😉 One of the benefits (?) is the ease of being able to download upgrades to programs that I’ve been neglecting lately. Getting Windows itself to download it’s stuff in just a couple of minutes was amazing yesterday, letRead More →

Just two questions that will help me get some idea what resources to look for. What blogging platform do you use? (i.e Blogger, WordPress, TypePad, LiveJournal, etc.) What’s your biggest blogging headache? (Or in other words, what do you need the most help with on a recurring basis, i.e. themes, layout, coding, posting, graphics – don’t be afraid to list anything because we all have something.) What I’d like to see happen as we build on this is for the pages here to reflect our “success” stories on how we’ve helped each other to find the answers to these questions in terms of the bestRead More →

I felt the urge to get a new theme and ran across this one. As my daughter says, it’s definitely my colors. :D It lost some of the sidebar stuff I liked, though, and if I can’t figure out how to get them back I’m going to pout. I have a sidebar widget but wouldn’t you know it, it doesn’t seem to be working with this theme. Oye. If it’s not one thing it’s another.Read More →

‘Cause I think I’m way past that and heading into obsession, maybe? 😉 Okay, I was going to save this post for Saturday but I couldn’t wait that long. Besides, I since I still have some to read I figure I’ll still have some to talk about then, too. Yeah, that works. Anyway, this recent, er, over-indulgence started to truly steamroll when I finally read Michelle M. Pillow’s The Pirate Prince. It wasn’t my favorite of either group of hers but then again since this read was at the end of a reread of both the Dragon Lords and Lords of the Var groups, I may be too battle fatigued to decide properly. IRead More →

I finally realized over the weekend that CindyS’s blog had been somehow dropped off my Blog lines subscriptions list. What really bugs me is that I only realized it when someone else posted about Cindy’s dog being diagnosed with cancer and I was like, what?!? How come I don’t know this? Normally, I’d chalk it up to user error but since I comment regularly on her blog, I don’t see that happening easily. So, I suspect it’s either something to do with the upgrades to either Blog Lines or Blogger, especially suspect is the fact that it took me forever to post a comment onRead More →

Uh, this isn’t about the ones you go to but the ones writers follow when they craft the stories. Okay, let me back up and say that I spent all day yesterday at the ER with my dad – he’s relatively fine now other than a slight urinary infection – and today getting him settled back into a routine. And wouldn’t you know it, this all happens when I didn’t have anything backlogged to post. So this is the first time today I’ve had a chance to sit down and think about something to post and therefore it may not make much sense. Over the last day orRead More →

This may actually be more of a “where is she now?” post but it all started when my daughter asked about one of her books that I had moved from the keeper shelves in my bedroom to the “reserve” shelf in the basement. Anyway, the book in question was Firestorm and I ended up rereading part of it. Not bad. Great virgin hero. Great reason for virgin hero, too, being that he was a warrior monk and had been with the order since childhood. Whatever, it got me to wondering whatever had happened to this author. I mean her books weren’t the worst futuristics but IRead More →

One of the things I did as part of my “getting back into the blogging groove” Sunday was activate the Askimet plugin on Bev’s Books as per Jane’s and May’s suggestions. I chose it because it comes preloaded in WordPress but I got to say I’m impressed. Spam isn’t a problem here yet because the blog itself is so new but you wouldn’t believe the amount it’s already catching on my blog. Oye. So, here’s the learning question, does it work for programs like Blogger? Or is there other things that work better for them? Then again, I can’t remember, is spam a big problem on Blogger?Read More →

Now why does that sound familiar? Hehehe. Anyway, one of the things I did give some thought to during my week off from blogging was what I wanted to blog about in the future. Books was the obvious answer but beyond that I once again attempted to come up with a workable weekly plan, er, guideline to use. I’ve done this in the past and haven’t stuck to it. Me and schedules like this don’t agree but I honestly think this one might because I am going to use it more as a guide for backlogging some posts rather than truly trying to stick toRead More →

Well, it wasn’t so much taking time off for the Thanksgiving holiday as I rather unexpectedly decided to take a “vacation” from both blogging and the Internet. Part of that was getting used to the new meds but I think I just needed the mental break. So, I’ve probably been online at most no more than thirty minutes a day for the last week and that was just to do the minimum housekeeping stuff. Don’t know if it helped but I feel better. 😀 Oh, and on one of my few forays onto the web last week I did some research into something that came toRead More →

While out running errands today I picked up a new romance that looked interesting – primarily because the cover interested me, okay? ;p – and can’t seem to remember if I’ve heard anything about this author or not. I want to say no but the description of the “world” at least sounds so familiar that I tend to think I have seen a review/discussion somewhere of either this one or a previous book. Only, if so, I can’t remember where or when. Anyone know anything about Christine Warren’s She’s No Faerie Princess? Somebody must because the cover says USA Today bestselling author. Uh-huh. I don’tRead More →
