It was nice taking some time off. Didn’t get a lot of reading done but did watch a few new movies. Plus I discovered a couple of new-to-me detective series.
We were able to watch both Sonic the Hedgehog 2 & Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers together as a double feature family movie night. Let me put it this way, they are both very good. But one of them is an absolutely fantastic non-stop action adventure. The other is more “what da heck did I just watch?” meta deliciousness. And yet still very good in its own weird way. Ya only get one guess as to which is which. Heh.
Then during some personal downtime I was digging around Britbox to see what I hadn’t watched yet. Britbox is my go-to channel on Prime when I’m in a British mystery mood, which I was definitely in that day. I ended up discovering a couple of true gems too.
The first is Sister Boniface Mysteries, a brand new spin-off of the Father Brown series. I think I like it better than Father Brown because it’s got a lighter touch. Not humorous, but, well, put it this way, Father Brown can get a little preachy. Sister Boniface is not. And she also works with the police, not in spite of them. Father Brown’s constant run-ins with the locale police detective gets old after awhile.
The other one was true surprise. Murder in Provence is also brand new and set in France not England. Very welcome change of pace all the way around. I ended up binging its three episodes in one evening. Mainly because I couldn’t stop watching it once I’d started.
Well that’s a small sampling of my vacation entertainment. There’s more but I’ll get to it later. So what have you been binging this summer?
