I saw on my calendar that today is Agatha Christie’s birthday and wanted to post something. The woman’s first book was published over 100 years ago, Mysterious Affair at Styles, 1920. Anything that could be said has already been said. Then I found an extremely well put together official website for her works, The Home of Agatha Christie. The site includes a lengthy biography I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It begins with this image and paragraph (scroll down a little from where the link takes you): Seriously, this is a website a fan could spend hours on so, go… enjoy. Then curl up and read oneRead More →

(originally posted March 9, 2020) I’ve been wanting to do some episode summaries for Scooby Doo but there’s just so many episodes to choose from. This cartoon series has gone through so many incarnations in the 50 years it’s been on TV continuously. It’s hurting my brain figuring out where to start. I like so many of them. Then I ran across this video on YouTube that is an excellent recap of the history of the series. And to be honest there were some things in it I didn’t know. It’s given me some ideas about how to proceed. So enjoy.Read More →

Emilie Loring was born on September 5, 1866. Since I wanted to do a post for her birthday I started digging around online to see what I could find. Jackpot! I discovered that she has a biographer named Patti Bender. Who has a website and a blog. All about Emilie Loring. Lots of browsing commenced. And, of course, I had to share. Most of the romance readers I know of that have even heard of Emilie Loring, much less read her books, started when they were very, very young. So it doesn’t surprise me that this was on the home page of Dr. Patti Bender’sRead More →

I just finished a re-watch binge of Eureka, so I had to talk about it. It’s an amazing little (five seasons & 77 episodes) TV series the SyFy channel created in 2006. If you like science fiction, especially lighter science fiction combined with comedy, do give Eureka a try.  Basically the story begins like this:  Colin Ferguson as Jack Carter is Eureka And an absolute jewel as the central character of the series. I’m honestly not sure anyone else could’ve brought Jack Carter to life so well. Particularly as the every-man Sheriff bringing law and order to the chaos that is Eureka. Sure, there are manyRead More →

Why “The Why Files” has become my favorite YouTube channel

Mainly because The Why Files is quite possibly one of, if not the, best YouTube channel I’ve ever run across. But, why? Well, first, here is AJ’s description of his content: “The Why Files is a channel for people who are fascinated (obsessed) with mysteries, myths, legends and conspiracies. We tell stories, seek the truth, and have a few laughs along the way.” The Why Files: About It very much lives up to that description, too. And then some. But it’s not the subject matter, precisely, that makes this channel so good. It’s the way AJ presents it. He starts out by telling the “story”Read More →

At least that’s what it seems like lately. Did you know that there is a new Superman cartoon out on Max called My Adventures with Superman (TV Series 2023– )? It is adorable and very much centered around Lois Lane because it’s her adventures with Superman that are referred to in the title. The first season isn’t finished so I really don’t want to get into it yet other than to say if you can, check it out. Honestly, though, Superman fans are raving about it. What’s fascinating to me is that since it started I’ve run across several really good articles directly related toRead More →

(originally published June 14, 2018) The first seven on this list I borrowed from The Agatha Christie Companion because they’re basically a sampler of the best of Christie’s style and voice. Not to mention her ability to craft a puzzle. I like them all, some more than others, so I’ve always thought they make a good start to a top ten. These last three are my own additions to the above to round out my ten and, oddly, they are all anthologies which I think makes a nice addition anyway.Read More →

Because there are two TV series I have to watch releasing seasons then. Well, around then anyway. First up is the new Asoka series which starts on August 23. To be honest, I’m kind of iffy on this one. Sure, I’m curious but I was never that big a fan of The Clone Wars so… we’ll just have to see. Then there is the big one, at least in this family, the second season of The Wheel of Time releases on September 1. So, yeah, lots of new episodes in September.Read More →

(originally posted May 22, 2021) Lately I’ve been in a weird mood movie-wise. I think it’s partly that Prime has been pushing random superhero and/or adventure movies with maybe a dash of science fiction tossed in for good measure to the front of my recommendations. Gee, I wonder why they would ever think I’d like those? Thing is that they’re all stand-alone and not truly deserving of their own post. So I thought I’d tell you about the ones I’ve seen recently with a small snippet of the listed IMBd descriptions. (originally posted June 30, 2022) I am a big fan of Scooby Doo. Not in the fanatical sense but definitely in the “Scooby Doo is comfort food for me” camp.  So usually I downright devour any series or movie they put out. Well, unless they’re absolutely ridiculous. Looking at you Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue! That one is just too weird to watch. ‘Nuff said. But when Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated first came out, I actually didn’t like it. At all. In fact, I could easily say I actively hated it. And wondered what the creators were smoking. (Oddly not in the same wayRead More →

(originally posted April 17, 2021) possible mild spoilers ahead just saying I really liked this one. A lot more than Godzilla (2014) or Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). To be honest, I remember watching Kong: Skull Island (2017), which is also in this series, but that’s about it. Not sure what that says, but apparently it didn’t make a big impression on me. Of course, I’ve re-watched the other two recently so that may be part of it. Not all though. first there are the battles between the two titans The monster fights in Godzilla vs Kong (2021) are absolutely phenomenal. The way theRead More →

(originally posted February 24, 2020) I finally read “Dinosaurs and Nukes Don’t Mix: A Ulysses King Adventure” by Mark Beaulieu and really enjoyed it. But I will admit that it wasn’t what I was expecting. Okay, let me rephrase that. I’m not sure what I was expecting. Basically a Doctor Who type story wasn’t it. Even after reading the description.  It was very much in the style of an episode of Doctor Who only with dimension jumping rather than time travel. Oh, and a Godzilla wanna-be is tossed in just for kicks. Very enjoyable though. Reminded me more of a Doctor Who fan fiction whereRead More →

(originally posted July 23, 2019) I just finished reading the last book in Dana Marie Bell’s Maggie’s Grove series, Hour of the Wolf and wow. Just wow. I’m not talking about just the last book. I’m talking about the entire series as a whole. I honestly tried to talk about these stories separately but there’s an overall villain plot in them that is so connected it’s almost impossible not to lump them together to keep from giving away major spoilers. Probably the only way I may try to do some posts on each individual book is to highlight each couple and their relationship. So considerRead More →

I’ve been dealing with some technical issues this week so haven’t had time to put a regular post together. But because of that headache, though, I decided to look for an alternative to Stardew Valley. I love that game but after playing it through several variations I honestly need something else to explore. Same holds true for Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles. They are both really fun and relaxing but I just don’t want to play them at the moment. But I do want something casual in a farming format. So what else is out there? Well, I did a quick online search and foundRead More →

My son and I watched Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves over the Memorial Day weekend and really enjoyed it. I honestly didn’t expect it to be very good. But it was fantastic! And, to be honest, I’m not even sure what makes it fantastic. Okay, let me back up a bit before I try to figure that out. Even as much of a fantasy fan as I am – generally speaking – I’ve never been that big on the D&D stuff. Definitely never played the table games. And only have a passing acquaintance with the movies that have been made in the past. OfRead More →
