This is a busy holiday week with not very much time to post so just a quick one to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving with some scrumptious food pictures. When you picture traditional Thanksgiving foods, you probably think of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and yams. But since America is a melting pot, it only makes sense that multicultural traditions have made their way onto the Thanksgiving table in different regions around the United States. What Thanksgiving dinner looks like in 16 regions across the country But how come I live in Kentucky and don’t remembe ever having this next one? Read More →
I’ve always preferred DC Comics but there is no denying that Stan Lee was a comic book creative genius his entire career. He will be missed by all comic book fans. Around 10 minutes long but still an enjoyable watch: And finally for more information about his life and death: Stan Lee, the comic book mastermind who changed the landscape of the superhero genre by creating countless beloved characters, has died at age 95. An attorney for Lee’s daughter, J.C. Lee, said the creative dynamo who revolutionized the comic world by introducing human frailties in superheroes such as Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four and The IncredibleRead More →
Cause I honestly had to check for to make sure he didn’t have one in the panel with Green Lantern and him. Also I honestly can’t figure out if I like the Whacky Raceland panel because I don’t who any of them are. Read More →
I mean, really bad ones. First a side note. I browse a lot of old book covers, aka pulp fiction, doing research. A lot. And the one thing that always amazes me is just how bad a rap romance has always gotten with regard to the covers in the genre. I guess the thing that gets me the most is that while there may be some bad covers in the romance genre, they ain’t got nothing on the really old covers from other genres. All popular genre have their problems but, for me, mysteries and science fiction have produced some doozies of covers over theRead More →

I make no secret of the fact that I love Lois & Clark/Superman. I also love a lot of different versions of the characters. But I have to say that these New Frontier retro versions of them are really special. I have the Justice League animated video of The New Frontier and I love that it’s so different so much that I don’t even care that Lois is only in it for a couple of scenes. So good. So when I saw these panels, I literally squeeged. Am I imagining it or would these make excellent Halloween costumes/cos-play? Read More →
Otherwise known as getting in the mood for Halloween. I was re-watching the old TV series Jonathan Creek after finding it on Amazon Prime and got curious about the theme music. I figured it was written for the series but nope. Apparently the theme of that show is part of a fairly famous piece of music written by Camille Saint-Saëns with very strong roots in Halloween. More on that in moment. Also, once you get something like that in your head it’s hard to get it out so I thought everyone else should also have it firmly in their head for Halloween too. So enjoy. This isn’t something that comes up a lot but I have a thing for the old style black and white monster movies. So here’s a question, are there any romances out there with monsters in them a la Universal Studios old style monsters? We all know there are a very large gaggle of vampires, shifters and what have you in romances nowadays, but they don’t really count as those old style monsters. So are there any? Pretty sure I’ve run across a Frankenstein type in a romance in the past but the others? And the reason this came up is the following, which kind ofRead More →
Geographical fun: being humourous outlines of various countries, with an introduction and descriptive lines is a 1860s book compiled by “Aleph”, nom de plume of London surgeon and educator William Harvey. The young lady who is responsible for these Sketches is now in her fifteenth year, and her first idea of Map Drawing is traceable to her meeting with a small figure of Punch riding on a Dolphin, and contrived to represent England. The thought occurred to her when seeking to amuse a brother confined to his bed by illness. It is believed that there illustrations of Geography may be rendered educations, and prove of service toRead More →
I think I’m back in fighting form, more or less. Haven’t been back to the doctor yet for more blood tests but I’m definitely feeling better and especially not as fatigued. That was starting to get old. On the plus side, this weekend I was able to catch up on Doctor Who in anticipation of the new Doctor debuting on Oct 7. (Well, in Britian anyway.) Honestly, I have to admit that I have conflicted feelings about the next Doctor being a woman. On the one hand, I really like the idea of them finally going in that direction. On the other, though, I’m honestlyRead More →
When I decided to restart blogging on this site, I knew it would be a struggle at times due to other commitments as well as some minor health issues. Still I mentally set a goal to post regularly at least 2-4 times a week and worked out a plan to make it happen. Of course I knew that I might not reach that goal at all some weeks. To be honest, I’m in fairly good health for my age but I do have some issues that I have to deal with periodically. One of those cropped up a couple of weeks ago when I startedRead More →
Over the recent Labor Day weekend, during some down time I was burned out on detective shows, didn’t want to read and finally pulled out this game. Of all the various Zelda games I think this one is the best followed closely by its direct sequel Majora’s Mask. It’s truly amazing how much it holds up considering it came out in 1998. I’m having a ball playing it in my free time this week but one thing I’d forgotten is how usefull that horse is once you get her. Seriously. Read More →
