I’m on my way out the door heading for a doctor’s appointment but I just had to post this. (When I get back, I promise to be a good girl and catch up on responding to comments that I’m way behind on.) In the meantime, here’s something to chew on whilst I’m out and about. I think this thing over at Dear Author has fried my brain but it did get me to thinking – always dangerous – and I started wondering what subgenres we could, ahem, temporarily borrow from other genres and give a distinctly romance twist. So far I’ve only come up with two that really appeal to me.
I have no imagination.
I know the rest of you do, however, have wonderful, devious imaginations. (very evil grin and wildly wiggling eyebrows) Sooooo, here’s your mission should you decide to accept it, agents of the Romance Underground. Come up with “appropriate “romance” definitions for
- Steampunk (If someone around here can’t do something especially satirical with steam-punk and romance, I’ll be sadly disappointed in all of you. I mean really. ;p)
- Cozy Mystery (Hey, I’ve always thought “cozy” implied something intriguing but was never motivated to figure out what before so impress me. :D)
Plus if you can think of any other, er, appropriate subgenres from fantasy or horror we could “play” with-have at them. Just in fun, mind you. ‘Kay?
Someone could always try alternative history. Rewriting famous lovers’ stories & history all at the same time. Antony & Cleopatra, Eleanor & Henry, Henry VIII, etc. All kinds of famous couples..
