This is the first post in an ongoing series each Sunday that I’m calling my weekly “reading” journal. Reading is in quotes there because it’s actually going to be a running log of what book reading, video watching and game playing I manage to get in during a week plus any other random thoughts that come up. One of the reasons it’s going to be so freewheeling is that I’ve been experimenting with dictating my thoughts into notes on my phone (and/or typing/editing them up if I’m at a computer) whenever the mood strikes. The idea is to then just copy and paste into a post at the end of the week, probably around Friday. So there’s going to be some overlap on dates and also minimal editing or images added so excuse any confusion or typos that slip by in advance. I’m sure I’ll refine the process as I go along. Like I said this is an experiment.
So onto the “reading”.
My son and I watched Aquaman on DVD last weekend and I’ve spent the week trying to decide what I want to say about it. I liked it. I can’t say I loved it but it was a solid movie. I enjoyed the developing relationship between Arthur and Mera. In a lot of ways it truly made the movie work. I made the mistake of checking out reviews after watching it and decided that was a bad idea. There seems to be an active reviewing war between DC and Marvel fans so how many of the reviews/ratings out there can be trusted? I have no idea. I just kind of backed away. And also it seemed counterproductive to look at what other people thought of it just in case I decided to write up some more detailed likes & dislikes at a latter time.
Reading the new Shelly Laurenston book In A Badger Way got me in the mood to reread another her other books this week. But which one? Having just reread the entire Pride series, that was out. I have some of her Dragon books under G.A. Aiken but wasn’t in the mood to dig them out. So I finally it was time to reread the Call of Crow trilogy. Except finding time to actually start the first book ,The Unleashing, has been a pain. Every time I think I can just sit down and starting reading, something else demands my attention. Oi. But I am determined. I even put it on the home page on my phone.
Oh, yeah, also on the video front, I have binged so much on detective TV series lately that I needed a mental break, so I dug out the Harry Potter series the other day and put them in my bedroom to watch every night before bedtime. Yeah, mostly I’m just putting them on replay and going to sleep but I am rewatching them. 😜
Okay, I think that’s everything from this week. So what has everyone else been “reading”?Â
