The Wizard of Oz

Okay, I’m not even a horror fan but I’m still intrigued. I mean I’ve read the Oz books and I can see where one could find horror in the subject matter. Especially in the later books, there is a lot more downright horror elements than one would expect in fantasy supposedly created for children.

So, yeah, I can see it.

Now we’re not talking about a feature film here but a short crowd-sourced project. Honestly, I think we’re going to see a lot more crowd-sourcing of creative content in the future. People are just downright fed up with some of the insane decisions major studios tend to make.

“Gale: Stay Away From Oz” re-imagines the L. Frank Baum classic beloved by generations. Taking a tonal cue from the dark 1985 film, “Return to Oz,” “Gale” features an elderly Dorothy Gale warning her granddaughter about Oz’s terrifying truths. The short film will stream exclusively on the Chilling App in April. “Gale” writer/director Daniel Alexander says “Return to Oz” stuck with him for decades. Alexander envisioned a story that worked within its macabre framework, but he didn’t have the Hollywood resources to pull it off. He knew if he could deliver a story teaser to the public he’d have a fighting chance of making his vision come true. More than anything, though, I was blown away by the quality of the trailer they put out.

Wow. Like I said, not a horror fan but definitely intrigued. Now I have to go re-watch Return to Oz (1985). Or maybe that would be watch it for the first time because I’m drawing a complete blank on it.
