For the last couple of days, I’ve been distracted dealing with a family matter that in the grand scheme of things seems small but isn’t to us. My son’s dog is 16 years old and showing it now. He’d gotten to the point that he couldn’t get up and down and was having a lot trouble even navigating just the two steps we have on our front porch. Things had gotten bad for him in just the last few months and we were starting to worry about having to make a big decision soon.
So, we took him to the vet this week and turns out he’s actually in pretty good shape considering his age. His heart is strong and all his blood work was good. He has arthritis and some bad disks in his back that they gave him some meds for. So we’ve installed a ramp on the porch. No more steps for him.
The only problem now is that they gave him an almost full shave as part of the grooming they did so they could also do the x-rays and exam and now we’re having to keep him warm using a hot water bottle most of the time until his hair grows back out. Seriously, you should see the way my son babies this dog. I just hope he takes as good of care of me in my dotage. 😉
