site housecleaning

Just a quick word on what’s happening with some of the posts appearing and possibly disappearing. I decided to directly link the blog I have on Tumblr with this site and imported the very few posts that I did there into this one. Since most of them didn’t have titles they’re showing up as id #s for now, at least until I can sort things out. This doesn’t mean that everything I post here will show up there or vice versa but most of it will. I kind of think of the blog over there as being the “back porch” of this one, more freewheeling and spur of the moment. I’d also decided this summer that I wanted to do a major redesign of the site. In fact, I almost took it … Read entire article »

Does it make me smile?

Does it make me smile?

A few days before Christmas, the strap on my handbag broke and I decided to treat myself to a last minute Christmas present so I stopped by J C Penney with my daughter. I’ve always liked their selection because most of them are organizer bags, they come in a wide range of sizes and materials, are well-made and durable plus there are usually reasonable sales at certain times, namely Christmas, Easter or the beginning of … Read entire article »

Taking the time to listen – to myself

Sometime last year I realized how tired I was of endlessly discussing romance novels online. Yeah, there I said it. Okay, to be fair, it wasn’t so much talking about them altogether as the repetitive way we romance fans tend to beat some topics surrounding them to death at times. That may or may not sound like a strange, rather contradictory thing to say, but it’s a true one, nonetheless. Then again, I also considered that maybe it had more to do with personal perspective than actual topic repetition. What I mean is simply this, as both a longtime reader of romances and someone who has been online talking about them for almost two decades, I decided that maybe, just maybe, I needed a tad bit more than simply a short, quick … Read entire article »

Spring cleaning

I don’t have much time this morning before some really bad weather is heading our way but I thought I’d take a few moments to list several of the changes I’ve made to the blog in the last few weeks as part of my reorganizing & simplification efforts this year. I’ve changed to a greatly streamlined theme with only one sidebar. This is major for me because I tend towards prefering themes that are full screen and fluid with sidebars on left and right but I fell in love with this Notepad theme when I ran across it recently. I have a thing for making lists on notepads – steno pads, mostly - and since I used to call my old blog Bev’s Notes, I think I was feeling a bit nostalgic. Okay, … Read entire article »

Goodreads

For years now, I’ve used Readerware as my database for cataloging my books. I love Readerware even though there are probably better programs out there. It’s simply reliable, proven and easy to use. Recently, though, I’ve wanted to find an online database that I could use with the blog and finally settled on Goodreads. I’ve used LibraryThing in the past and never truly liked it. For some reason, Shelfari never impressed me past the “checking it out” stage. But Goodreads is a program I find myself actively liking to use, which is always a plus. I’ll probably add books both sporatically in groups and as I read them individually, hopefully with comments either there or on the blog here, the overall goal being to synchronize what’s there with what’s in my Readerware … Read entire article »
