Sci-fi fans can be scary sometimes – even the, ahem, girls ;-)
I know this because I am one. My son knows this because he is a male who has dealt with two female fans, me and his sister. In fact, we got into a discussion about obsessive sci-fi fandoms just the other day after he ran across a Doctor Who forum that I think actually scared him a little at the degree of, um, obsessiveness. Doctor Who has been around for a lot of years and undergone a lot of, er, regenerations. Deadly combination for obssessive fans. Anyone care to speculate on who is worse Star Trek or Doctor Who fans? Not me. All of which musing really made me chuckle when I ran across the following @ The Galaxy Express: The following post is based on true excerpts from an email exchange … Read entire article »

Taking a ride on The Galaxy Express
One of my favorite blogs to visit in recent months has become The Galaxy Express and Heather over there has been busy this last week. Here’s a juicy tidbit from one post: George R.R. Martin (A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE) and legendary SF/F anthology editor Gardner Dozois recently announced the table of contents for their anthology, SONGS OF LOVE AND DEATH: Tales of Star-Crossed Love. This tome will feature stories blending fantasy, science fiction, and romance! And what a lineup! Check it out and tell me if anything in particular jumps out at you: via Exclusive Free Excerpt from Linnea Sinclair’s “Courting Trouble”. And actually quite a few author names from the romance side of things jumped out at me so go check out the list. Then the other day, she had a … Read entire article »

I’m back
Well, unofficially anyway. My computer is in the shop being debugged. The tech guy thinks it has a worm or something because it keeps shutting down/locking up on me. Which could definitely be the problem but since it’s been having display problems for months, I’m not totally convinced that’s actually the issue. I was finally able to transfer the important stuff to a to mobile drive so I could work off another computer in the meantime and now I can give my full attention to being back online again. And just in time, too, because after I got my normal herbal coffee fix this morning and settled down to checking Google Reader, I found a fantastic post by Heather over on The Galaxy Express on a topic I’d asked her about several weeks ago, Of … Read entire article »

Blame it on Wendy ;-)

Because she’s single-handedly managed to drag me kicking and screaming – okay, not exactly screaming but definitely reluctantly - out of my self-imposed hiatus with a recent post on a Jayne Ann Krentz book called Random Romance Sunday: Jungle Love. And even that probably wouldn’t have done it for me it I hadn’t already been mulling over the craziness of a recent purchase of mine. Here’s the thing, I’ve been seriously thinking lately on filling out my collection of Krentz’s backlist, all AKAs. Notice the word “collection” there. This isn’t so much a reader thing, as it is a collector thing, although I do love her current Jayne Castle books. Anyway, last week, I think it was, I was out shopping, I can’t even remember which store, and picked up a couple of random romances purchases that just happened to be Krentz’s I didn’t … Read entire article »
