She’s writing about the grandkids now?
A funny thing happens when one takes a break from reading for a period of time. A favorite author’s backlist can multiply like rabbits, especially when we’re talking about the romance genre. At least nowadays. Case in point, a couple of weeks ago, I go out to eat with my children and on the way home we stop do some shopping. Oddly enough, or not, we all three end up in the book aisle at about the same time and start jokingly picking out books for each other. Then things took a turn into the very funny when I pick up a new book by Stephanie Laurens, take one look at the back description and realize it’s a Cynster spin-off but I have no idea who the heck the main character … Read entire article »

alpha heroines
(Editing note: I’ve been going through old posts and files doing some housekeeping to categorize and tag them and decided that it would be fun to periodically – probably every 5th Wednesday – pull one forward for a second look. The criteria I use to pick them could be research for a current topics of interest or a whim of something that catches my attention while browsing the bowels of the site. Heck, I may even dig up something I posted elsewhere and no one’s ever seen. Who knows. Today’s recycled post was originally posted here on Feb 2, 2006 and got picked because I was checked to see what I’d already said about Stephanie Laurens.I’ll explain why she’s on my mind in more detail very soon.) Sandy’s post yesterday on … Read entire article »

Ten Nights of Love: Amanda Quick
Once I’d started reading historical romance with Julie Garwood, I did sort of dive into that particular pool headfirst. I remember reading a lot of mostly medievals in those next few years of the early 1990s. All the while still reading some contemporaries and searching for that elusive perfect fantasy/science fiction romance combination to appear on the horizon. There were occasional fits and starts in that direction with the new Leisure/Love Spell line but not a lot of enthusiasm on my part for what they were producing. But back to reading historical romances, I slowly began to dip my toe into the Regency era and it was definitely slow going. Regencies are an acquired taste, long and short or what we in romance call the Traditional Regency Romance. For some strange … Read entire article »

What to reread next
I’m sort of vertical again and trying to decide what I’m in the mood to reread because I know I’m not in the mood to concentrate on something completely new at present. So far, and this is just since last night, I’ve pulled Mine To Take by Dara Joy off the shelf and put it back. I thought about reading another Krentz but couldn’t decide which one. Right at the moment I have two Julie Garwoods on my bedside table – The Prize and The Gift – and I’m really not sure I’m in the mood for either of them. Don’t ya just hate it when you have no idea what you’re in the mood to read? Related Posts:The ones I reach for all the timeSo, what do people really believe are … Read entire article »

Krentz, Krentz & more Krentz
Actually, that should probably be Castle, Castle, Quick, Quick, because first I was on a Jayne Castle binge and now it’s shifted over to Amanda Quick. And I ain’t done yet. I may even work my way over to some actual Jayne Ann Krentz titles before this is done. Okay, let’s see what I’ve read so far. It all started with Ghost Hunter (Jayne Castle). I really liked it, so much so that I can’t think of a thing to say about it. No, really, and it’s maddening. Honestly, the thing that stands out to me about this new futuristic romance is that when I tried to put my thoughts down into words I kept finding myself describing it by saying “typical Krentz” this or that, which isn’t a bad thing … Read entire article »

Blame it on Wendy ;-)

Because she’s single-handedly managed to drag me kicking and screaming – okay, not exactly screaming but definitely reluctantly - out of my self-imposed hiatus with a recent post on a Jayne Ann Krentz book called Random Romance Sunday: Jungle Love. And even that probably wouldn’t have done it for me it I hadn’t already been mulling over the craziness of a recent purchase of mine. Here’s the thing, I’ve been seriously thinking lately on filling out my collection of Krentz’s backlist, all AKAs. Notice the word “collection” there. This isn’t so much a reader thing, as it is a collector thing, although I do love her current Jayne Castle books. Anyway, last week, I think it was, I was out shopping, I can’t even remember which store, and picked up a couple of random romances purchases that just happened to be Krentz’s I didn’t … Read entire article »
