Oh, wow!
It’s been so long since I’ve read or rather devoured a new book in more or less one sitting that I’d almost forgotten what that particular high felt like. Or how it can also leave one drained to the point where one wonders what could possibly satisfy next. So, imagine my delight when I was utterly enthralled by Captive Moon by C.T. Adams & Cathy Clamp this weekend.
This is an absolutely fantastic romance about two were-cats in a Earth-based reality where there is an entire hidden society of were-animals of many different sorts within the regular population. Yes, it’s actually third in a series but stood alone quite well. In fact, I’m not even sure I want to read any of the others. I was so satisfied by this one. Is that a good or bad thing? Good from the reader’s standpoint and bad from the author’s, maybe?
Whatever, I loved the fact that there don’t seem to be any other magical creatures besides the weres in sight in this story universe, particularly those dreaded vampires. I also loved the hero, who was a sort of combination befuddled alpha and confused beta. I wouldn’t normally use those terms to describe a character but they fit here. Then there’s the fact that the characters very much embrace their natures that appeals to me a lot because I get really annoyed with the “woe is me” types in so many creature stories.
I did have a bit of a problem with the seeming abruptness of the ending but that’ a minor quibble since everything that needed to be done got done anyway.Â
Overall, though, just yummy.Â

Oh, thank goodness. I have a book by these authors in the TBR pile and I was worried after reading a bad review. Like you I don’t like ‘woe is me’ types either. I also don’t like the idea of ‘cures’. I just can’t see it.
CindyS
I’ve heard alot about this book! Thanks for the rec, I think I’ll pick it up.
This book looks really interesting. I think I’m gonna have to buy it-even though I haven’t read anything by these authors.
I am new to the whole “were-animal” books. I don’t know where I was for years but until recently, I just never read one. Now I have a were-snake book to read the cover is freaking me out! LOL.
Thanks for the review, I’ll keep my eyes peeled…

Cindy: I haven’t read anything else by them so I can’t say. What I have seen about the first two books in this particular series makes me almost hesitate to get them – mainly because they are totally or at least partially in first person. This one wasn’t. Strange, I know.
Valeen: Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Ames: It’s a very interesting set-up, I have to say and I did love the hero to death. ;p
Sandie: I’m not all that experienced in were stories myself so I”m not sure how valid my judgement is in how well done theirs are but they definitely seemed very “realistically” portrayed to me – as opposed to pure fantasy in terms of how they interact. Let me know if that makes any sense to any of you.
It looks interesting – and a paranormal sans vampires – even better. I looked it up to see if it was in the stores here (yippee it is) and I noticed something interesting. In one of those identical pictures except for minor changes kind of thing, the picture on the Chapters website is identical to the one at Amazon, except the hero’s hair is long in the Amazon pic and short in the Chapters pic. Other than that they are identical. Of course now I definitely have to check it out to see what picture is the one on the cover!
Kristie: do I detect yet another reader suffering from vampire-overload? ;p
As to his hair in the picture, let me just say that it’s a LOT longer in the book and not even in the typical long-haired hero mold either. We’re talking really long hair here. Seems he and friend have a bet on who’s hair can grow the most in one year and the story takes place in December . . . at least he keeps it in a ponytail most of the time.
Good vamp books are hard to find, especialy in Romance. I just read 3 awesome ones but that’s rare. LOL.
Were cats? Yikes, I think Ilike them less than I do werewolves. ANd that’s saying a lot.
But I’m glad you found a good read! I was in a slump myself.
^.^
So I went out and got myself a copy – long haired hero on cover
. That is of course what sold me on it.
Aww… glad you enjoyed it!
You’ll enjoy the December book, HOWLING MOON, even better, I’ll bet.
shape shifters … haven’t read a good one of that kind for a long while. may be time to revisit.
btw, I included your blog in my post on eye-catching designs and Rob, over at Blog of the Day, wishes to pass along his appreciation of your work. He featured the post in http://blogoftheday.org/page/111943 .
