I can’t believe I bought another one

Vampire romance, that is. It makes me want to bang my head on the keyboard. Well, at least it’s an anthology. I can also console myself with the fact that I got some non-vampire romances, too, even if I suspect one of them has a werewolf in it. Of course, that reference could just be an analogy.

Anyway, here’s today’s booty:

Highland VampireHighland Vampire anthology with Hannah Howell, Adrienne Basso & Deborah Raliegh – I got this one because I’ve lately been on a Howell kick. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself but you know it’s particularly disturbing that I haven’t even heard of the other two authors.

Murphy\'s LawMurphy’s Law by Lori Foster – This one at least I’ve been on the lookout for because I read and mostly enjoyed Jude’s Law. Part of the reason I’m so interested in seeing how this one turns out is that the heroine was an intriguing character in the first book. We shall see.

Tempting the WolfTempting the Wolf by Lois Greiman – Other than the wolf reference, I really have no idea why this one caught and held my eye. I don’t think I’ve read anything by her or if I have, it’s been a long time ago. At least there’s not any puzzle to the cover. Ahem. ;p

Heart Quest (Berkley Sensation)Heart Quest by Robin D. Owens – Would it be enough to say that since I have all the rest, I figured I might as well get this one? Hehehe. Actually, that’s more or less the case but I am enjoying this group and at least the books aren’t changing format in the middle of the series like some others I could name. Grumble. Grumble.

And there you have it. I have no will power at the grocery store. :D

You are brave! I try not to buy books unless it’s gotten some good reviews. I keep eyeing Murphy’s Law, but I’m not sure which books I have from that series. And because I do know I have some of them, I need to read them in order. :P LOL

I’m so POed at myself. I forgot to reserve a copy of the Owens book.

Ames: Well, since three of the four had familiar authors, I’m not sure I’d see it as all that brave. I do tend to take chance on books like the fourth one on a fairly regular basis, though, if the plot sounds like it appeals to me. I can never say it enough; I am very much plot-oriented. :D

May: Yeah, and I didn’t even realize Owens had another one out in the Heart group until I saw it in the store. How fast is she publishing those? Didn’t one just come out a few months ago?

LMAO! I love vampires but most of the vampire books are cringe worthy. I forgot but have you read Dark Lover? Or Midnight SUn?

  • http://bevsbooks.com beverly

Mailyn: I don’t believe so. At least, I don’t recognize the titles. Who’s the author? I do tend to lean away from “real” towards “pseudo” vamps anyway, unless it’s an author I like who doesn’t normally do them.

Uh, that makes no sense. Does it?

Put it this way, I’m not sure I’ve ever actually read a full length romance with a “real” vampire in it. Short stories, yeah, and usually I’m so-so on them. There was a short story by Howell out last year, though, that I liked that had a hero in it that I “think” was a real vampire, but you know I was never quite sure what he and his clan were supposed to be so he may not count either. I think the story in this new anthology one is from the same universe so I’m not too worried either way.

    I can answer those questions.

Dark Lover’s written by JR Ward, and is the first Black Dagger Brotherhood book. Midnight Sun’s by Rene Lyons, and is published by Samhain.

Well, duh, you’d think as much as everyone is talking about the Ward books, I would’ve made the connection. I guess it’s because I’ve never been the least interested in them so I haven’t focused on the titles.

I’m also sure I’ve heard people talk about the Lyons book(s?) but haven’t checked into them yet. Thanks for clarifying, though.

LOL so you like fake vampires? I think that’s what you meant. Either that or I’m totally lost. LOL.

Mailyn, maybe it’s better not to ask. *g*

LOL. I am easily confused so yeah, but I’m trying to think of a vampire romance where the vamp isn’t all vampy. Well, have you read Twilight by Stephenie Meyers? It isn’t about teenage sex, I promise. It’s a great book and the vamps aren’t like typical vampires.

I have a review up at the Twilight Kingdom site.

May & Mailyn: I guess what I mean is that I have an extremely low tolerance for any character that’s all “woe is me, I’m cursed” whether we’re talking hero or heroine, normal or supernatural. (And if I have to put up with a tortured character, I usually prefer it to be the heroine, not the hero. :D ) So, I suppose it’s not any surprise that most traditional vampires leave me wanting to scream or whop them upside the head and not over the blood thing. Most of the ones I’ve enjoyed have embraced or at least accepted who they are. Sometimes that happens because they’re pseudo-vamps (a la Feehan or Sands) but there a few romances out with real vampires who actually like who they are, too. Very few, but they do occur.

Now, does THAT make more sense? :D

Oh, and I’ll check out Twilight.
